It was a playoff series that didn't feel like a typical eighth seed versus first seed in the 2011 Western Conference playoff opening round as the Memphis Grizzlies face the powerhouse San Antonio Spurs. Heading into the series, the eighth seeded Grizzlies were trying to make franchise history and win a playoff series and advance to the semi-finals. However, the tables were turned this time and the Grizzlies went on to defeat the limping Spurs (Manu Ginobili was hurt as was Tim Duncan) and move on to face the Thunder. Let's relive that historic moment for the Grizzlies once again. [follow]

Duncan back to chase 5th ring alongside same Spurs

Tim Duncan didn't re-sign for three more years just to start over. In fact, the San Antonio Spurs are back with nearly the entire roster that dominated the NBA for most of last season. But the NBA's winningest team the past two seasons knows something has to change. Otherwise. the Spurs risk staying stuck as a perennial contender that's been beyond the reach of another...

Ginobili: Spurs must improve defense to remain among the best

During the San Antonio Spurs championship reign, the franchise captured four NBA titles predicated on stellar defense. The Spurs would defy any team from scoring and their defense was the epitome of the saying, "Offense wins games but defense wins championships." However, that was then, this is now. The Spurs haven't won a title since 2007 and it coincides with...

Duncan Dilemma done; NBA changes All Star ballot positions

The NBA took a step away from labeling player with traditional and slightly outdated positions.  The League announced Tuesday that it is doing away with center position on the All-Star Game fan ballots.  In its place, the league is simply going to list frontcourt players, lumping all forwards and centers in one group called frontcourt players.  TNT's David Aldridge broke the...

Video: Apparently Manu had some time on his hands after Heat game

The San Antonio Spurs may have lost their preseason matchup versus the Miami Heat but that didn't dampen Manu Ginobili's spirits on the way back to the team plane. While leaving the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Ginobili made this time lapse video from inside the team bus from the arena to the team plane. Don't worry Manu, the preseason will all be over soon and...

De Colo making an impression with Ginobili

Since arriving on the scene, San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Nando De Colo has made an immediate impression on the court. He can pass on a dime, run the floor, knock down the outside shot and has shown poise in San Antonio's preseason matchups. Because of this, and especially his passing ability, many see a bit of another foreign import on the Spurs roster in De Colo's style...

For those who live in San Antonio, you may have seen a huge sign along Huebner Road with "Black Jack Speed Shop"...

Manu on new-look Lakers, fears & more

In a recent mailbag with NBA.com, San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili opened up about pretty much everything. He talked about anything from food and music to his NBA career and how he stays in top shape at his age. I love reading these mailbags because, most of the time, fans ask better questions than reporters. The questions aren’t focused on what Manu was thinking when...

Report: NBA drops center spot from All-Star ballot

NEW YORK -- Centers will no longer be guaranteed a spot in the NBA All-Star game. NBA.com is reporting that the league will announce a change to its All-Star ballot on Wednesday, removing the center position. Fans will be required to vote for three frontcourt players, instead of two forwards and a center. The change makes sense with fewer teams relying on a traditional center anymore...

The NBA amends All-Star ballot.

With players like Duncan, KG, and Lebron playing multiple positions it was only a matter of time.

Spurs' depth is the key for success this season

At what point to the San Antonio Spurs finally move on, close the window and begin life post-Three Amigos? It's going to happen eventually. Just not this season. The Spurs, for those who have forgotten, have forged the best regular-season record in the Western Conference the last two years. Though that doesn't guarantee anything in the playoffs, obviously, it does indicate...
