Found March 23, 2014 on Grit, Grind, GRIZZ!:
Last week on the Tell It Like It Is Show, host Jonathan C. Smith (@likeitismemphis) asked me how I thought the Grizzlies would do in the Heat-Pacers back to back over the weekend. I know my answer sounded lame, but I was totally noncommittal — I could see the Grizzlies winning or losing both games, or splitting them. Two championship contenders, back-to-back, with a post game flight thrown in? Who could fault the Grizzlies if they lost both games . . . as long as they played well. I wanted to see how they executed. I wanted to see if they deserved to be in the conversation of championship contenders. Well, one night after losing to the Miami Heat — a game that felt more like Memphis let slip away than it did Miami beating the Grizzlies — the team tipped off against Indiana, determined to remain focused and dialed in. As a result, fans, your Memphis Grizzlies played some of their best ball of the season and displayed a withering style of defense against the vaunted defense of the Ind...

Memphis Grizzlies: strong weekend continues forward momentum towards playoffs

This weekend was one that the Memphis Grizzlies must have had marked on their calendars for a long time. On back to back nights, the Grizzlies were scheduled to face the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, the two best teams in the Eastern Conference.  The Grizzlies have been playing excellent basketball since the All-Star break and have shown that they deserve to be in the playoffs...

Grizzlies' Tony Allen ruled out against Timberwolves

Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Tony Allen will not play tonight against the Timberwolves due to a stomach illness, according to Rob Fischer on Twitter. With Allen out of the lineup, look for James Johnson and Nick Calathes to pick up extra minutes off the bench at the shooting guard position. The Grizzlies are coming off an impressive win against the Pacers last Saturday, holding...

"We caught a good team on the second night of...

Grizzlies' Marc Gasol in walking boot after injuring ankle Friday

The Memphis Grizzlies' loss to the Miami Heat Friday night wasn't just a blow to them being one step closer to securing a playoff spot in the West; the Grizzlies may have lost center Marc Gasol for a few games as the regular season starts to come to a close. Gasol left the game midway through the third quarter with a sprained left ankle, and didn't return. The Grizzlies...

Grizzlies' Marc Gasol plays with ankle injury in win over Pacers

The Memphis Grizzlies had an impressive 81-72 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. The win was the 9th in the last 12 games for the Grizzlies, who improved to 41-28 on the season. Although fourth in the Northwest Division, the Grizzlies are eighth in the Western Conference, a half game behind the Mavericks and a game in front of the Suns.  Center Marc Gasol, despite having...

Grizzlies Play Great, but Miami Wins In The End, 86-91

Marc Gasol was on his way to a dominant performance against Miami before he turned his ankle in the third quarter. Coming into this back-to-back from hell against the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, I was decidedly non committal. I knew the Grizzlies could win or lose both games, or split. I guess I was more concerned with HOW they played — would they defend, would they be able...

Timberwolves-Grizzlies Preview

It's not surprising that the Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the league's best defensive teams since Marc Gasol returned to the lineup over two months ago.

Fur on the Floor:   This is what happens when you don’t have time on your hands, but you decide to spend it doing something other than the thing you were initially doing. It’s like shedding. Griz comes into the room and, for no other reason, shakes off all the loose fur onto your carpet. I’ll think of a better simile or metaphor as time passes. Onto the goods:   Instead of...

Wolves Bark, Grizzlies Bite & Win: 109-92

Neither K-Love nor Z-Bo reached their usual double double. Love posted 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Zach gave Memphis 17 points and 4 boards. It’s nice to know that professional athletes, as rich as they are, still get excited about fancy jewelry. It sure seems that way, because ever since Mike Miller received his championship ring in Miami, the Grizzlies have become downright...
