The Utah Jazz and Gordon Hayward were unable to agree upon a contract extension and he will become a restricted free agent this offseason. Hayward was not seeking a four-year, max contract worth more than $60 million, according to reporting from ESPN's Marc Stein. Stein believes Hayward will find a deal in that neighborhood in free agency with teams like the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics having cap space.

Future overpaid Celtic(?) Gordon Hayward comes to town tonight

With the Jazz visiting the C's this evening, one of the major story lines is Butler alum Gordon Hayward playing against his former coach, Brad Stevens.  Hayward will be a restricted free agent at season's end, and the rumors about him potentially coming to Boston have been abuzz pretty much since the day the Celtics hired Stevens. Yesterday in his "Eight Fearless...

Utah Jazz: Examining Their Incredible 5 Man Core

Utah Jazz: Examining Their Incredible 5 Man Core By Mike Elworth: Owner and Publisher/Hoopstuff… Right now to start the season the Jazz may be 0-5, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any positive things going on with this team. Entering the season, nobody saw the Utah Jazz as a playoff contender and looking at their roster it is easy to see why, as they are one of the...

Utah Jazz: My kingdom for a point guard

The Utah Jazz’s 0-4 start is the worst since the team moved from New Orleans in 1979. The roster was designed to not win many games, but there’s a difference between that and not winning any games.  Even if their record isn’t their highest priority this year, the glaring talent hole at the point guard position affects what the rest of the team can do. The Utah Jazz point-guard...

Utah Jazz Week 1 Recap

The Jazz have started their first week in the NBA by dropping all 3 games so far.  In the season opener, the Jazz hosted the Thunder and lost by 3. It was a well fought game, but down the stretch the Jazz made big mistakes in turning the ball over and missing key shots. It ...The post Utah Jazz Week 1 Recap appeared first on The League News.

Kidd connects with Jefferson before home coaching debut

The irony wasn’t lost on Richard Jefferson. As Jason Kidd was preparing to make his home coaching debut, Jefferson was going through another NBA season, the 13th in a career that began with Kidd and the Nets in 2001. “I made a joke, ‘Now he’s the rookie and I’m the vet,’ ” Jefferson said with a smile, before the Nets crushed the Jazz, 104-88, Tuesday night at Barclays...

Gordon Hayward on "Weird" Reunion with Boston Celtics Coach Brad Stevens

BOSTON–With the Utah Jazz in town, a familiar face in Al Jefferson has now been replaced by a familiar face to Celtics coach Brad Stevens in Gordon Hayward. After starring for Stevens at Butler, Hayward has gone on to become one of the most promising swingmen in the league and, more importantly, a restricted free agent this summer. A week after Hayward failed to agree to an extension...

Celtics-Jazz Live: Jeff Green, Gordon Hayward Face Off in Battle of Winless Teams

8 a.m. ET: Somebody will leave TD Garden on Wednesday night with their first win of the season. So there’s that. The winless Utah Jazz (0-4) visit the winless Celtics (0-4) in a battle of squads that are, well, winless. The Celtics are coming off a string of fourth-quarter failures, while the Jazz are playing the second night of a back-to-back after taking a whupping at the hands...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Jazz 11/6

Thanks to a dominant second quarter performance, the Celtics were able to end their 4-game start-to-the-season losing streak tonight by beating the winless Utah Jazz, 97-87. Now I'm just gonna say this to all C's fans: enjoy this victory. I get that it was over the worst team in the league, but still, it was a W. The Celts probably won't have many of those this season...

Game 4 Recap: Brooklyn Nets 104, Utah Jazz 88. The One Where Brook Lopez Dominated

Brook obliterated a Utah frontcourt sorely missing Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap, who are playing in Charlotte and Atlanta respectively After an extremely disappointing loss to the Magic two days ago, the Brooklyn Nets finally got an easy win as they blew out the Utah Jazz at Barclays tonight. Severely handicapped by injuries, the Jazz were simply no match for a...

Stevens Gets First Win Against Former Protege Hayward - The Garden Report

BOSTON -- With former Butler protege Gordon Hayward visiting, Brad Stevens was all smiles before the game. But he was even happier afterwards, as his Celtics got their first win of the season with a 97-87 victory over the Utah Jazz. Brandon Bass led the C's with 20 points while Gerald Wallace grabbed nine rebounds in a "7th man" role as he reluctantly called it. The...

Celtics will get first win tonight - Gordon Hayward to become a Celtic? Utah Jazz vs. Boston Celtics preview

The Boston Celtics will get their first win of the season tonight at TD Garden against The Utah Jazz. The reason I say this is Boston had yesterday off and The Jazz are playing a back to back in the middle of a tough four game road swing after losing in Brooklyn last night 104-88. Not to mention, The Jazz are just not very good. When your starting lineup includes an aging Richard...

The Celtics made a run to cut the lead to 16-10, but the Jazz scored 4 unanswered points to go up 20-10.
