The New Orleans Hornets are going to look like a completely different team next year. They’re adding two top-10 draft picks in Anthony Davis (No. 1) and Austin Rivers (No. 10). They’ve added players like Ryan Anderson from Orlando and Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick from Phoenix.

They’ll have a lot of new players out on the floor, but they’re keeping the same guy to lead them. Current Hornets head coach and former Spurs player and assistant coach Monty Williams has proven over the last two years that he’s the right man for the job. It appears that nobody in the Hornets front office blames him for their 21-45 record last season, as they shouldn’t since they dealt away All-Star Chris Paul for spare parts. Instead they’re excited to see what he can do with fresh new legs.

"The Hornets have a promising future and an exciting young nucleus," said Hornets executive vice president Mickey Loomis. "It is our opinion that Monty is the perfect coach to develop and lead this group of talent going forward."

Williams signed a four-year extension through the 2015-2016 season but, as is common, the team didn’t release the terms of the deal.

Williams only said “it’s more than I deserve.”

I think this is a great move by the Hornets. Williams has shown in just two seasons that he means business. He doesn’t put up with anybody’s drama and is going to run the team how he sees fit. These are the characteristics you want in guy trying to mold young guys and build team chemistry.

The Hornets have a chance at a massive turnaround and could even find themselves as a playoff team in a few short years if everything comes together. The entire organization has been through so many changes in the last couple years, it may finally be time to get themselves on the right path.
