Via Lakers Nation:

LA Times Lakers beat writer, Mike Bresnahan, just tweeted that the Lakers have given the Houston Rockets permission to speak with Brian Shaw, who's currently the assistant coach on the Lakers staff. Shaw, is also the leading candidate for the head coaching position after legendary coach, Phil Jackson, hangs up his clipboard after what he calls the "Last Stand."
The Houston Rockets let go of their long time coach, Rick Adelman, as they have decided to move on to a new direction after being rocked by back to back years of DNPs by their superstar center, Yao Ming. Speculation has run rampant across the blogosphere of possible replacements ranging from Jeff Van Gundy to college coaches like John Calipari.
There's no reason to think that this is a sign that the Lakers do not plan to keep Brian Shaw, but instead, this is what a classy franchise like the Lakers do - give their loyal staff members options, so they can see that the best option for them, is to stay a Laker.
By the way, Kobe Bryant has put his full endorsement behind Brian Shaw being the next Lakers coach, so let's hope nothing rocks the boat too much this summer.
Conspiracy Theory - With Kurt Rambis on the outs and his wife, Linda Rambis, being best friends with Jeanie Buss, could this be some maneuvering to get Kurt back from Minnesota?
