The Philadelphia 76ers cruise to a 84-75 win over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center, but the point of emphasis was on a storm tonight, no not Hurricane Sandy but a 7-foot storm by the name of Spencer Hawes. Hawes played phenomenally Wednesday night as he poured in double-double numbers (16 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks) while shooting 66 percent from the three-point-line. "We've been waiting a while for this," says the former Washington Husky, Spencer Hawes, "it's been a long summer and this is what we've been waiting for." Hawes played 31 minutes in place of the injured Andrew Bynum, and proved he deserved to be in a Doug Collins rotation with a strong performance off the bench to lead to the first win of the season for the Sixers. Among other players on the floor, Jrue Holiday finished with a double-double performance (14 points & 11 assists) and Dorell Wright also delivered with a strong 14 points off the bench. The Sixers also shot 81 percent from the charity stripe as they sunk 17 for 21 shots from the free-throw-line. With the season underway, Coach Doug Collins may have another piece to play with among great players from a strong Sixers bench. I don't know what's bigger, Hurricane Sandy or Hurricane Hawes.
