Shaquille O'Neal announced his retirement yesterday via a 16-second video released on Twitter. The man who drew a huge crowd in Harvard Square just by pretending to be a statue, who had to be persuaded against riding a train in Boston dressed in drag on Halloween for fear of causing massive chaos and the man who makes highly-publicized visits to nursing homes with his reality-star girlfriend found it appropriate to make a quiet announcement on Twitter regarding the end of one of the greatest NBA careers ever. It was very un-Shaq-like. I always expected Shaq to retire in the same fashion that Miami introduced their Heatles last summer. I expected a huge retirement party, complete with confetti, smoke and some strange dancing by the big man himself. I expected it to be a celebration of nearly 20 legendary seasons.
