The Celtics redeemed themselves last night with a convincing 115 – 85 win over the Brooklyn Nets last night. The game was televised on TNT, so players were no doubt eager to put on a show for their national audience last night.  The Celtics jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never really looked back. They showed glimpses of basketball brilliance, reminding us all why they are still considered the team to be the greatest challenge for Miami in the East this season. Even with the win…I think the consensus would say that the Celtics pre-season has not been pretty and they are still obviously working the new guys in while ramping up towards their regular season opener against the Heat in Miami October 30th. That game will also be nationally televised on TNT. We will all be watching this highly anticipated playoff type match-up to see how the new look Celtics fare against the Heat. If I could provide one critique…turnovers plagued the Celtics last night (15) vs Brooklyn, with Rondo leading the team with (5). That’s gotta change! Has anyone else noticed that Rondo’s turnover average has gone up every year he’s been with the Celtics? Hmm. The only thing worse is Brooklyn as a team had (19) turnovers and their starting point guard Deron Williams led all guards with (6). I can guarantee you that the Celtics will see a much different result to the game vs the Heat if they don’t get a handle on their turnovers. The MAJOR bright spot of last night’s contest was seven Boston players scored in double figures…that includes all five starters. Paul Pierce and Courtney Lee led all Celtic scorers with 18pts, with Jason Terry adding 15 pts off the bench. Now if this is the type of team scoring we can expect throughout the season, it’s gonna be real tough for teams to beat the Celtics. Even rookies Jared Sullinger (12pts, 6 rebs) and Kris Joseph (11pts) contributed nicely. It’s no secret, expectations are HIGH in Boston. But, we must be patient and let the evolution of this NEW look Celtic squad take it’s course. With the BIG three leading the way, we can only expect things to get better.
