Found April 30, 2012 on Red's Army:
The Hawks should know better than to give anyone on the Celtics, especially Kevin Garnett, any shred of motivation. Every answer the Hawks give should be in deference to a great opponent. Something like "We played a great game against a great team. We had a lot of things working well, we executed our game plan very well, and we're going to need to do that again if we're going to win again. We can't count on them missing those same shots because they're too good. Those are shots that usually fall for them, so we'll have to be even better moving forward." Boom. That's it. Oh, they asked you about KG? "KG is one of the best ever, man. I just gotta try to match his intensity. That's no easy job for anyone." That's the extent of it. I don't care if it's canned ********. If you're the Hawks, that's all you should be stocking in your pantry of possible media answers. Nothing but canned ********. Too...

Hawks Rookie Ivan Johnson Calls Kevin Garnett 'Dirty Player,' Considers Celtics 'Whole Bunch of Mess-Talkers'

Hawks forward Ivan Johnson's questionable behavior is well-documented, but he apparently doesn't have the stomach for Kevin Garnett's style of play. The 28-year-old rookie voiced his displeasure following Atlanta's practice on Monday, calling into question KG's integrity. "Garnett, he's a dirty player," Johnson said. "He gives me a lot of elbows...

Scrub Hawks big man Ivan Johnson rips "Dirty" KG, Celtics

Boston Herald Add another name to the ever-expanding list of Kevin Garnett’s critics. Hawks rookie forward Ivan Johnson became the latest to join the chorus this afternoon after Hawks practice. “Garnett, he’s a dirty player,” Johnson said. “He gives me a lot of elbows and I can handle that.” Johnson said he expected that Garnett and the Celtics would attempt to do things...

Ivan Johnson was ready for KG's dirty play

Kevin Garnett has a way of getting under his opponent's skin. It is part of his psychological warfare on his opponents. It has what has made him great and what has made him hated. Ivan Johnson became a household name (sort of) after a big game on national TV. The TNT crew loved his tenacity and grit and the energy he brought to the game. Johnson is not someone who is going to...

Kevin Garnett May Have Received Motivation He Needed With Ivan Johnson's 'Dirty' Remark'

It does not take much to motivate Kevin Garnett. His motivational tool for this season has been the perception that he is "old," but even before Garnett hit the big 3-0, he was drawing inspiration from other seemingly innocuous sources. This is a guy who takes offense to being a called a "center," for cripes sake. Ivan Johnson may not know this. He did spend two...

Kevin Garnett Will Produce Against Hawks, But Celtics' Success May Hinge on Performance of Backup Big Men

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Ryan Hollins has not been to playoffs since 2008-09, when he was a useful sub for the Mavericks. He is back in the postseason with the Celtics, but the seventh-year veteran is not excited about the opportunity. Nope. "I'm more than excited," Hollins said. "Playoffs are so much fun. It's the best basketball you can play. I'm definitely...

NBA GM says Anthony Davis could be better than Kevin Garnett

One NBA GM says that Anthony Davis might become better than Kevin Garnett, the 2004 NBA MVP,  2008 Defensive Player of the Year and 14-time NBA All-Star who is still wildly important to his team’s success in this, his 17th NBA season. (Sports Illustrated)One of the West general managers said Davis “is probably going to be better than Blake Griffin,” and his GM colleague...

NBA GM on Anthony Davis: 'He might end up being a little better than Kevin Garnett'

As quickly as Anthony Davis shot up from a six-foot tall wing playing freshman in High School, expectations of what the now 6-foot-10 big man from Kentucky could soon be on the next level are rising even quicker. In a recent Sports Illustrated article, Sam Amick quoted one Western Conference General Manager who said that Davis is probably going to be better than Blake Griffin. Before...

Video: Garnett says Spurs' Popovich only other coach who could handle Celtics

The " Big 3" in Boston of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett ("Big 4" if you want to throw in Rajon Rondo) is one of the most respected, accomplished group of teammates of all time. It seems like those guys have been together forever and they’ve been led by their coach, Doc Rivers, to an NBA title and some other solid runs to go along with it. Pierce...

Kevin Garnett, Marquis Daniels Clamping Down on Defense in Fourth Quarter Set Tone for Celtics' Victory Over Hawks

When Marquis Daniels checked in for the Celtics early in the fourth quarter, Celtics fans could be forgiven for assuming there was some sort of clerical error. Daniels had played a grand total of 51 seconds in the first half after not seeing the floor at all in Game 1 of Boston's playoff series against the Hawks. His last meaningful postseason action came six years ago, and not...

Celtics-Hawks, Game 2: Celtics win their latest bar fight, even series

Brandon Bass opened the second half by missing an uncontested putback from two inches away. Kevin Garnett missed a bunny on the next possession. Shortly thereafter, Mickael Pietrus caught the ball with an open court in front of him. He stopped, gathered his surroundings, and threw a pass to the wrong team. With 3:08 remaining in the third frame, Joe Johnson canned a three-pointer...

Rondo faces suspension as Celtics lose game one in Atlanta, 83-74

The Celtics tried climbing out of a hole throughout this hole game. They played without energy and were flat in their shooting.  This allowed Atlanta to cruise to a game one victory, 83-74.  Remembering all of this before the soon to be infamous call is important because the Celtics played awful in this game and deserved to lose. Continuing on how poorly the Celtics played before...

Your Morning Dump... This team is all "grit and balls'

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. We call him Swag... He's our leader. This one's for Swag, aka 9, aka Rondo. Hope you listening boy. I know you not. I know you're someone going crazy. What's up. See you on the plane. ...

Celtics clamp down late, take Game 2 87-80

No Rajon Rondo? No Ray Allen? Eh, whatever. Paul Pierce turned into the 2002 version of Paul Pierce and carried the Celtics offensively. 36 points, 14 rebounds and one massive, backbreaking shot after another down the stretch more than made up for the Celtics' firepower that was relegated to viewership status. Calling his performance a thing of beauty would be an insult...

Rondo suspended for Game 2

Not shocked, at all. Rondo bumped an official and you can’t do that. Frankly, I’m not all that discouraged about Game 2 because of this. Rondo wasn’t the reason we nearly came close to stealing that game on Sunday night. It was simply the fact the Celtics played with greater defensive intensity after the first quarter. The Celtics lost because the Hawks were lights out in...
