Every once in a while we like to present to you feature posts from guest bloggers. This article is the work of Felipe Diaz, a fine and enthusiastic young man from the great state of Wisconsin who is currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying Film Production and Marketing. Felipe is a self-professed MMA and football fan, who honed his writing skills on his school related blog, and by writing naughty limericks on stranger’s dirty cars. Nothing tugs at the ‘ol heartstrings like an athlete that just doesn’t know when to say when. Anyone from Wisconsin, specifically in and around the Green Bay area, understands this completely (see Favre, Brett). Jalen Rose, clad in a maize colored sweater and a foam-rubber wolverine-head hat, made every effort to remind the public that some twenty years ago he was a part of the coolest group of kids since New Edition. That group was the Fab Five, the only team to win* and then lose (read: be stripped of) consecutive Final Four appearances. The Sunday before the Men’s NCAA Championship game, Jalen took to the Internet in a piece with Bill Simmons, and lamented the fact that he does not have a solid relationship with Chris Webber. Rose used the opportunity to push for a reunion of the Fab Five, not for himself, but for the University of Michigan. Of course he did, going so far as to compare the situation between himself and Webber to that of Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas, whose relationship went bad in 1991 after Johnson revealed he had HIV and Zeke publicly questioned Magic’s sexuality. See, it’s just the same, except totally different. Here’s Rose’s interview with Simmons, where the Fab Five alumnus makes his impassioned plea for a reunion… As fate would have it Chris Webber did attend the game, which isn’t such a surprise seeing that it was played within walking distance of his home. According to one report there was a reunion of some kind, but no photos have surfaced as of yet. Maybe Webber was just avoiding his old teammates because of that whole NCAA mandated 10-year disassociation period with the University of Michigan. Or maybe he was avoiding his old teammates for entirely different reasons, as he still claims to be close to several players on the current Michigan roster despite the NCAA mandate. Until some proof surfaces, we will never know if that magical reunion ever took place, or if the Fab Five just happened to be in the same building, four of them staring across the floor at Chris Webber, like some bashful teenagers at the senior prom. If the reunion did take place, what a great silver lining for all those Michigan fans. If not, we can all look forward to an even older Fab Five, spearheaded by Jalen Rose, reminding us of what almost was, every March, for years to come. The post Jalen Rose rocked a hideous hat, hoped to rekindle Fab Five friendship at title game appeared first on Last Angry Fan.
