I guess we’re going to see how much of an ego Lawrence Frank has. According to a story via Mike Mazzeo of ESPN, newly-appointed Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd, has reached out to his former coach to serve as his assistant. Frank was fired by the Detroit Pistons earlier in the year after a disappointing tenure with the team, and is currently at home looking after his wife who recently had emergency surgery. “The invitation is out there, so it’s up to him,” Kidd said Friday on ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike.” “He’s in a special situation. He’s at home, his wife is sick, so I understand coming off of coaching [the Detroit Pistons] and [possibly] wanting a year off with his family, so I respect that. The big thing is he knows how much I love him and how much I need him, but family comes first, and I respect that.” Kidd says that he’s trying to gather a staff high on experience since it’s his first coaching gig of any kind. “There’s a lot of people that have come out publicly saying that I need to get a seasoned staff, and that’s what I’m looking at, people who maybe have been head coaches in this league or have been assistants and understand what it take to have some success so I can learn on the job,” Kidd said. “One of those candidates is Lawrence Frank that I’m trying to get because we get along well, I trust him and I think he understands what it takes to have some success in this league.”

Knicks Basketball: Kidd to the Nets. Tampering Anyone?

I might come off to some of you as a disgruntled Knicks fan, but if you read into what I am saying I think you will understand that my point is valid. Jason Kidd and the Knicks season ended with great disappointment. NY lost in the 2nd round, being outplayed and overmatched in every way. Jason Kidd looked liked a player that had lost his skills and just could not “bring it” every...

Head coach: No experience needed

The guys who get hired to coach NBA teams seem to come in about four varieties: the legends, the coaching lifers, college coaches and former players who still are young enough to seem vaguely cool (or at least familiar) to current players. The latest NBA coaching hire fell into that final category. The Brooklyn Nets hired Jason Kidd, who retired so recently he probably still has...

Jason Kidd the Right Hire for Brooklyn

Billy King and the Nets might have pulled off the biggest surprise of the NBA season with their decision to hire Jason Kidd as their head coach. Just a week after he retired as a Knick, Kidd returns to his former team as the savior he once was when they inhabited New Jersey. This may not be the glamorous move that Mikhail Prokhorov wanted (see Phil Jackson), but it certainly is gutsy...

Why King Hired Kidd

With no coaching experience and freshly retired as a player, Jason Kidd was a somewhat controversial choice as the new head coach of the Nets. Former Duke star Billy King says he asked Coach K his opinion and Krzyzewski apparently thought Kidd would be great. He’s got work to do – the Nets aren’t exactly a tough team – but the guy’s a life. If he can find a way to get it...
