We now know at least one thing, Steve Kerr isn't afraid to pull the trigger on a major trade. After a week of uninspired play, the Suns decided to pull off this season's version of the Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol. In picking up Jason Richardson from the Charlotte Bobcats for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell ...

  • My boy Boris and my #2 Raja???? Does this mean I have to start watching the Bobcats???? :'(
  • is anyone going to play defense in pheonix now? well, besides matt barnes
  • C'mon, Boris and Raja are hardly Kwame and a couple of nobodies. This trade won't make Phoenix any closer to a ring tho. It's kind of like how the Dubs picked up Jamal Crawford and how the Clips snatched Zach Randolph. If anything, it may help them get into the playoffs. That's it.
  • Wow........another stupid trade. What next, Steve Nash?
  • jrich needs to fill it up for the suns in the valley, i'm startin to like this trade, we got some pop now.
  • About as much pop as you got with Shaq last year?
  • This trade isn't gonna work out for the suns.. Diaw and Bell are great role players and well how are they gonna get J Rich involved on offense with Amare, Shaq and even nash. But I guess only time will tell for sure.
  • I totally disagree that this trade is the Golden Trade. The pieces and egos don't fit - it's just a sign that Phoenix is a dead team.
  • Here are my views on this matter :

    1. The Suns should also trade Steve Nash :

    2. Are Shaq and Grant Hill suicidal yet?

  • Diaw was purely inconsistent on the Suns. He'll fare better in a role outside of Phoenix. And Raja Bell was a great defender and solid 6th man, but nothing more. Hopefully it'll work out for both parties. I guess we'll find out soon enough eh?
  • It might not be the Gasol trade of this year. The Kings back in 2003 were just like the Suns now. Getting old and running out of time. So what do they do, they get Brad Miller in a sign-and-trade and sent Hedo Turkoglu to the Spurs and Scot Pollard to the Pacers.

Even when they got better talent in return along with their main players from 01-02 they still couldn't get it done. It's just an example of how the J-Rich trade could go down in the end.
  • I kinda like this trade as well,my only concern is Jason's lack of (DEFENSE) unlike Raja Bell,Richardson at times doesn't go hard on the defensive end, don't get me wrong we all know he can feel it up(He's averaging 19ppg this season)But with Amare,Shaq and Nash all wanting to get their shots off,He's gonna have to make his defense work in order to get some extra buckets..But in a nut shell this could help or hurt the Suns only time will tell...
  • J Rich will help the suns, the Suns just became my second favorite team. More wins possibly, but for sure some bad a#$ dunks
  • As a Phoenix Suns fan since I was 5 years old (I'm currently 17), I am upset with this trade. They didn't necessarily have to trade Raja Bell or Boris Diaw, whom I think are 2 very good players for the Phoenix Suns.

Richardson may "take some of the pressure off of Steve." as Porter would say but Diaw & Bell could both score as well as Richardson and I personally think it's Porter's job to guide them to increasing their scoring percentage.

Both Bell & Diaw have good defense, Bell especially. He may foul but he makes sure those fouls count. I don't know but I don't think the trade was practical, this trade might have been an impulsive move on Steve Kerr & Porter's part.

I would much prefer D'Antoni's system than Porter's. Steve Kerr needs to stop thinking impulsively and trading off players that do fine on the team. The Suns are a run-and-shoot team, Diaw & Bell are exceptional at that type of offense & play great defense.

We'll just all have to wait and see, and be optimistic. If something goes wrong, they'll be the ones who realize it.
  • They would've at least traded them for universal players, that can play both defense & offense very well. But I guess we'll just have to wait and give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
  • hopefully this will be more like the team when joe johnson was there. he was the same kind of shooter/slasher guard and that team seemed to just gel. if jo-jo didn't get his eye socket busted they coulda gone to the finals back in '05.
  • Steve Kerr didnt like D'Antoni's system cause all it did was just win games durin the regular season. The Suns made no noise every year they made it to the playoffs.

I think this trade is good for Phoenix. Look at your line up now. Nash, Richardson, Barnes, Amare, Shaq.

I do agree though with someone above. This trade was like the Warriors gettin Jamal Crawford or the Clippers gettin Zach Randolph. Phoenix still needs a bench to get over the hump and contend for a championship.
  • Not sure if it's quite THAT good yet... but it very well could become so!
  • Steve Kerr should have just stuck with being one of the greatest clutch and three point shooters in history, now he is going down a sad road, I just don't see how Jason Richardson will possibly gel with this team. The Suns are now last years Nuggets, alot of stars and no chemistry, good work Steve Kerr.
  • its a nice trade but nothing like stealing pau gasol for a giant marshmallow. the suns gave up some talent and while j-rich is a nice addition the suns are still not good enough to compete with lakers, hornets, jazz, rockets, blazers etc.
