The Sport Mentalist 2:
After his great performance in the NBA Finals, the MinnesotaTimberwolves signed JJ Barea away from the defending champs in hopes that hewould be the play-maker they lacked last season. This was before Ricky Rubiocame in and made a splash with his flashy passing ability of course.
The Timberwolves hadn’t had a whole lot of success over thepast few years with Luke Ridnour running the point for them which prompted themto make the play for Barea and push to get Rubio to join the team.
With Barea’s signing the Timberwolves were hoping to bringRubio along slowly but Barea’s inability to stay healthy forced Rubio into thelineup early. Rubio would make the most of his opportunity by showing what kindof an impact he could make on the team.
And he was doing a great job up until he tore up his knee acouple of weeks ago ending what had been a fabulous season up until that point. The T’Wolves have gone 2-6 without Rubio in the lineup.
Barea’s play has been promising the past few games though.Barea has registered ten or more assists in each of the past three games andeven had a triple-double when the T’Wolves played the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday.
They would still lose to the Thunder in double overtime buta stat line of 25 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds shows why Barea was such acoveted player during free agency.
He will have to continue to produce if the T’Wolves aregoing to have a shot at making the playoffs though. They are currently 3.5games behind the eighth-seeded Denver Nuggets with only 17 games left to play.
But with the effort Barea has displayed as of late and with KevinLove putting up numbers like the 51 points and 14 rebounds he posted in thatdouble overtime loss, the T’Wolves have the potential to make a serious pushfor a playoff spot in the final weeks of the season.
That potential better become reality soon though or the T’Wolvescan look forward to another trip to the lottery.Roosevelt Hall is an NFL Blogger for The Sport Mentalist and an NBA Blogger for The Sport Mentalist 2. MINNEAPOLIS He was perfect at the half, with 17 points, running down the court as if he owned it. Not one miss, not one whiff, barely a misstep.
Luke Ridnour was playing like the game depended on him, and in many ways, it did. He's not the biggest name on the Timberwolves, and he's often the smallest guy on the court. He blends in, a quiet weapon, and just minutes before...
MINNEAPOLIS Timberwolves starting center Nikola Pekovic will miss Sunday's game against Denver with the same ankle issues that sent him back to Minneapolis at the end of the team's recent road trip.
Pekovic has been suffering from bone spurs in his right ankle, and he said that he'll miss the team's upcoming trip to Memphis and Charlotte. He hopes to return to the...
And now the latest evidence of marketing genius by the Minnesota Timberwolves public relations department: having the players sing karaoke to Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time".
Kevin Love is probably the worst singer of the bunch. Anthony Tolliver's singing is actually OK. Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pecovic didn't even try to sing. Martell Webster may...

The Minnesota Timberwolves do not expect the revelation of a torn lateral collateral ligament in Ricky Rubio's left knee to significantly affect his timeline for a return to the team.
Rubio injured his knee late in a game against the Lakers on March 9. The team initially announced that he tore the ACL when his knee buckled while trying to guard Kobe Bryant.
When Rubio went...
MINNEAPOLIS The longest road trip in Timberwolves' history is finally over. It's been seven games and five losses, 963 shots and 760 points. It's been two hurt players and the adjustment period to another more serious injury. It's been the fall from .500 to a 23-26 record. So, yes, the trip is over, and that's a good thing. Here are the high points and low points...
MINNEAPOLIS Utah has done it. So have Phoenix and Memphis, and don't forget about Dallas.
Those teams are some of the Timberwolves' closest competitors for a Western Conference playoff spot, and they've all achieved something down the stretch this season that the Timberwolves have not: a sustained winning streak. That's what separates them, and it's what ultimately...
Any NBA fan not related to Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love, who says that they knew that the big man would become the dominant force in the Association as quickly as he has after playing one season for UCLA during the 2007-2008 campaign; either could give Nostradamus a run for his money in forecasting the future, or is an out-and-out liar. The T-Wolves All-Star...

Kevin Love won't let the Minnesota Timberwolves go down without a fight.
The Denver Nuggets could use a little of the same punch right now.
Love followed up his 51-point game with 30 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves to a 117-100 victory over the Nuggets on Sunday.
''We used to call him kind of a poor man's Larry Bird,'' Denver coach George...

Despite a record-setting night from Kevin Love during a toe-to-tow clash with the West's best team, the scuffling Minnesota Timberwolves ultimately came up short again their last time out.
