It seems nobody thinks more highly of Kanye West than Kanye West. The hip-hop artist was recently interviewed by The New York Times, and as you might imagine, the exchange produced plenty of outrageous and bold statements from the controversial West. However, there is probably none more outrageous than the claim he made regarding arguably the most successful basketball player in history, Michael Jordan. In short, West believes he is to music what Jordan is to basketball. Before we get to the quote itself, we first have to understand the context of what West was talking about beforehand. West was asked about his propensity to try and promote himself on a constant basis. The 36-year-old responded by telling a story from his middle school basketball days in which he was cut in eighth grade after allegedly hitting "every shot" in the summer leading up to tryouts. West was understandably upset over the incident because he didn't feel as though he received the credit he was due. So, he voiced his displeasure, as he typically does nowadays, too.Yeah—you put me on the team. So I’m going to use my platform to tell people that they’re not being fair. Anytime I’ve had a big thing that’s ever pierced and cut across the Internet, it was a fight for justice. Justice. And when you say justice, it doesn’t have to be war. Justice could just be clearing a path for people to dream properly. It could be clearing a path to make it fair within the arena that I play. You know, if Michael Jordan can scream at the refs, me as Kanye West, as the Michael Jordan of music, can go and say, “This is wrong.” While there is no denying that West has experienced a successful career in music, it is foolish to think that he is on the same par as Michael Jordan is with basketball. It is even more foolish and arrogant for West to proclaim so himself. The old phrase comparing apples to oranges holds extremely true here.Via Bleacher Report
