Prior to Game 5, possibly as a response to Jason Terry talking too much trash for the Knicks’ liking, Kenyon Martin told his New York teammates to show up to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night dressed all in black. Martin anticipated the game being the Celtics’ funeral, and he wanted his guys to be dressed appropriately. Well, the move backfired. Instead of looking intimidating and tough, the Knicks came away looking sort of foolish after the Celtics won and forced a Game 6 back in Boston. That left Martin in an awkward position, and he did not feel like talking about it. “If you want to talk about basketball, we’ll talk about basketball,” Martin said in response to TNT reporter Lewis Johnson‘s question about the Knicks’ fashion statement. When Johnson re-asked the question, Martin got testy and repeated his answer. Check it out in the video below.

Knicks show up to Game 5 dressed for C's funeral

After the Knicks Game 4 loss to the Celtics, Kenyon Martin made a statement that urged his teammates to wear ‘funeral colors’ to Game 5 to show they were ready to finish off Boston. It looks like J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert got the memo because they arrived in all black everything, as did Kenyon. [Beyond The Buzzer] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Knicks Wear Black To Game 5 For ‘Celtics Funeral’

Kenyon Martin encouraged his Knicks teammates to arrive for Game 5 in New York wearing black to represent the “Celtics funeral,” as a Knicks win would end the series and send Boston with a first-round playoff exit. His teammates heeded his advice as TNT showed J.R. Smith arriving in all black and caught Iman Shumpert’s black suit in the locker room.

NY Knicks players dressed in black to game five against Boston to symbolize “Celtics Funeral”

Before the start of game five between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics, some players on the New York squad decided to enter Madison Square Garden dressed in all-black. Why all-black you ask? Apparently, they were taking some comments made by Knicks forward Kenyon Martin to heart by wearing “funeral colors” to game five: The funeral colors didn’t seem to work for...

Jason Terry: We're not laying down

Jason Terry said after the Celtics beat the Knicks in Game 5 that they won't lay down against New York. The pressure is back on.

JR Smith says he’s done with the “wearing all black stuff” after Knicks lose game 5 to Celtics

Members of the New York Knicks decided to wear all black to game five of their playoff series against the Boston Celtics. The idea came from Kenyon Martin who said that it would be the Celtics “funeral.” Knicks bruiser Kenyon Martin told his teammates after Game 4 defeat to prepare for a Celtics funeral. ‘The guy was mouthing off before the game,’ Kenyon Martin said. ...

Your Morning Dump…where the Knicks keep talking

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  “Yeah. That’s cool. I thought they wore that last game too,” Jason Terry said yesterday of the Martin comment. “For us it don’t change whether they wear white, pink, blue, black, green — it’s Game...

Mike Woodson Upset About the Knicks All-Black Everything Attire

I am trying to figure out how Mike Woodson didn’t know about this. Kenyon Martin was shouting about it for days and it was all over the news. I guess he was so locked in on his work, that he wasn’t really paying attention, but once he found out after the Game 5 loss to the Celtics he was upset. “I’m a little upset about that, and I’ve addressed that,” Woodson said after...

Funeral Averted as Celtics Stay Alive 92-86

Wednesday night the Celtics faced elimination on the road in Madison Square Garden. The team came into the night down 3-1 in their opening playoff series against the Knicks, looking to force a game six back in Boston. Kenyon Martin and the Knicks declared this a "funeral game" as the team dressed in all black to represent the series ending tonight. The Celtics had other...

J.R. Smith may have cost NY Knicks the series vs Celtics

On the eve of game 5, vs the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks super-sixth man says that their wouldn't even be a game 5 had he not elbowed Jason Terry in the closing minutes of game 3. From NY Daily News: Jason Terry goes by the nickname “Jet,” while the monikers Knicks fans will undoubtedly call the Boston Celtics guard will fall under the category of “parental discretion...

JR Smith when asked about Jason Terry: ‘Who?’

The Boston Celtics have an incredibly tall task ahead of them if they want to advance to the next round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are returning to New York on Wednesday night to face the Knicks, who have put Kevin Garnett and company in a 3-1 hole. If it’s bulletin-board material that the Celtics need to motivate them, JR Smith is doing his best to provide it. Smith...

Melo's wife LaLa fires back at Jordan Crawford

Boston Celtics reserve guard Jordan Crawford instigated a postgame tussle by taunting New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony following Boston’s 92-86 victory over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. As both teams crossed

5 Things Celtics must do to win tonight - Game 6

Tonight, the Celtics will look to even up their series with the Knicks when they play what could be their final game at the TD Garden this season. The Celtics have been in complete control in these last two games, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Right now, the Celtics are the better team. They have more experience and more momentum. I'll be shocked if they drop...

Jason Terry and David Ortiz are neighbors and yeah they've talked 2004

The Red Sox comeback against the Yankees in 2004 was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, sporting events I'd ever witnessed in person. Now, almost 10 years later, another Boston team is trying to do the same thing against New York. Can they do it? The odds are obviously extremely doubtful. On top of the fact that no NBA team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit before...

Can the Celtics recreate Boston sporting history?

Less than a week ago, the Boston Celtics trailed 3-0 in the series against age-old rivalries, the New York Knicks. Instead of submitting to defeat, the Celtics moved a step closer to doing the unthinkable when on Wednesday night they defeated the Knicks 92-86 in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series. Trailing 3-2, the Celtics will show their worth tonight in Boston in Game 6 and if...

Game Notes: Knicks vs. Celtics Game Five

Now, this is a series. Knicks and Celtics go back to Boston for Game Six on May 3rd at 7:00 pm. Boston won last night 92-86. The Celtics looked really good, while the Knicks looked lackluster to say the least. After going up 3-0, the Knicks are traveling back to Boston up just 3-2. Let's not choke here, fellas. A couple thoughts and notes on the Celtics' win. Kevin Garnett...
