Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett got under the skin of New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony during the Celtics' 102-96 win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden Monday night. KG was so successful in doing so that Anthony apparently tried to confront him after the game, both outside the Celtics locker room and outside the Celtics team bus, which could lead to Anthony getting fined and/or suspended by the NBA. Things started getting physical between Garnett and Anthony with just over nine minutes in the fourth quarter, and they started jawing at each other after one particularly chippy sequence, leading to a double technical foul on both players. With about three minutes left in the game, as Carmelo was called for his fifth foul while guarding KG, Carmelo cursed at KG as he was walking toward the Knicks bench during the timeout. Carmelo's voice could not be heard, but cameras clearly picked it up and lip readers at home will have no trouble with this one. As the game ended, that should have ended things until the next game between the two teams. However, Carmelo was captured by cameras exiting the court through the Celtics tunnel. This would seem to support the reports that Carmelo apparently waited outside the Celtics locker room and got into another confrontation with Garnett. That confrontation was apparently not physical and was not picked up by video. To top things off, Carmelo couldn't leave well enough alone and was captured by cameras waiting for the Celtics outside their team bus. The video appears to show NYPD police, MSG security and Knicks head coach Mike Woodson waiting with Carmelo to ensure that things did not get out of control. Carmelo has to be smarter than this. As the Knicks best player and in the discussion for league MVP this year, Carmelo has to control his emotions and let what happens on the court stay on the court. The NBA will be sure to follow up with an investigation as the league will likely not be happy with the negative publicity from this incident. One thing is for sure, however, is that the rivalry between the Knicks and Celtics just got a lot more interesting, and that is always a good thing. H/T BDL, Cosby.
