The Boston Celtics are lined up to play the New York Knicks in the first round of this year’s NBA playoffs, with the veteran Celtics looking to defy expectations one more time. Doc Rivers and company will need to ensure that the Beantown veterans are well rested and healthy enough to compete with New York’s big guns. Their odds of winning the NBA championship, after all, go only so far as Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are able to take them. The best news that Celtics fans were hoping to hear this spring has already come and gone: As the No. 7 seed (and not eighth), they’ll avoid suiting up against LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the first round. The Heat have an overwhelming 5-7 shot at winning a second consecutive title, while Boston has just 60-1 odds. New York has 14-1 odds of winning the NBA championship, but the Knicks have yet to prove they’re capable of a deep postseason run with Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire leading the show. The Celtics will be doing everything i...

Kevin Garnett: “Not every city is like this”

In a recent sit down interview with Greg Dickerson, Kevin Garnett discussed “the chant” from Game 6.  Part of what he said is in the headline.  Here’s more: “It’s like someone told me at the gas station, ‘I’m a Celtic too.  This is my team, I was raised with this team,’ that’s pretty much what it is.  People feel like they are Celtics.  When you hurt, they...

Practice notes: Pierce is sick, Terry is sitting

Before we get to the upcoming playoff series with the Knicks, let’s address the roster situation for the final two regular season games – Tuesday vs Indiana and Wednesday at Toronto. According to ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg: * PIERCE (ILLNESS) SITS OUT: Celtics captain Paul Pierce is battling a stomach bug and was told to stay home from practice on Monday. He’s still expected...

KG Texts Kobe: Mutual Respect between 2 Legends

After a ruptured Achilles defanged The Black Mamba, Kevin Garnett looked to the magic of texting to send his best wishes. Even the fiercest rivals hate to see each other fall to injury, and in this case you know Garnett was hoping to meet Kobe Bryant in The Finals to exact his vengeance for 2010. Despite their history of playoff showdowns (including Kevin's Minnesota days), Kobe...

Throwback: KG in a Three Point – Shooting Contest???

So I recently came across a youtube video that features KG and Paul Pierce in the McDonald’s All American 3pt shooting contest and Dunk contest. You’d think the Truth would be in the 3pt contest and KG in the Dunk contest, right? WRONG…the 6’11 center out of high school, Kevin Garnett, was selected to particpate in the three point contest and boy did he struggle! Although...

Video: Green, Garnett & Pierce extended highlights vs. the Magic

Extended highlights from  courtesy of yesterday's blowout in Orlando courtesy of  OfficialCelticsHD. The Big Ticket with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Jason Terry has bothersome legs, Paul Pierce is sick

With the playoffs quickly approaching and the Celtics seeding set in stone, there really is no reason to play their key guys other than get a rhythm going heading into the playoffs. That especially goes for the veterans. The 35-year old Jason Terry for one missed the last game against Orlando. Apparently he could miss more than that with some "bothersome" legs. Jason...

It's official: Celtics vs Knicks in Round 1

After the Celtics locked up the East's 7th seed with their blowout win in Orlando last night, the Knicks have just clinched the #2 spot by defeating the Pacers this afternoon, setting up what could be an epic first round battle between Boston and New York.  Three weeks ago I suggested it might be in the C's best interests to try to make this matchup happen, but after New...

Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to sit out tonight's regular season finale in Toronto

From the Celtics official twitter account: Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry will not play in tonight's season finale in Toronto. — Boston Celtics (@celtics) April 17, 2013

5 Things Celtics must do to win tonight - Raptors 4/17

Tonight, the Celtics will wrap up the regular season when they head north of the border to play the Raptors. This game couldn't matter less. But, it also couldn't matter more. In my opinion, they should win this for the city of Boston. Here are tonight's five things: 5. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE RAPTORS: This game is Toronto's last game of the year. So obviously...

Carmelo Anthony “wants to beat Boston,” still doesn’t really get how the Celtics work

Paul Pierce needs no motivation to play against New York. Why would the Knicks give him any? With a win last night over Indiana, the New York Knicks clinched the second seed in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup against Boston. Given both teams’ recent history against each other, it’s probably not a surprise, then, that today’s big news is that Carmelo Anthony...

Ready for the playoffs: Celtics lose to Raptors 114-90

Strange game as the Celtics rounded out their season losing their 81st game finishing just over .500 with a record of 41-40.  Not much to really report from this game as the Celtics playoff positioning is secured in the seven seed.  Terry and Garnett both got the night off and Pierce played just 14 minutes all coming in the first half.  This game was played with a palpable ...

Celtics president Rich Gotham, Doc Rivers, Jeff Green and Shavlik Randolph speak about yesterday

If it's worth anything: Kevin Garnett is standing as still as a statue in the middle of the practice floor, staring up at the banners. — Greg Payne (@GregPayne_ESPN) April 16, 2013 The Celtics official twitter account relayed some comments from Celtics president Rich Gotham on the cancellation of tonight's game. In light of the events of yesterday, I think everyone can...

Your Morning Dump… Where the hated Celtics have become America’s team

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. But now the Celtics aren’t only a 7-seed with proud, graying stars hoping that muscle memory carries them into May and beyond. Monday, bloody Monday changed everything for every Boston institution. Just as the...
