Charles Barkley said last week that Dirk Nowitzki's "days of being the man are over" and added that the Mavericks are "too old and too slow" to repeat as NBA champs. Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd, who turns 39 next month, disagrees with Barkley's opinion. The 17-year veteran was asked about Barkley's comments during a Tuesday radio interview and defended his teammate. "Well everybody is different," Kidd said on The Ben and Skin Show on 103.3 in Dallas KESN-FM, according to SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I think Dirk is far from done. I think we all have gotten off to a slow start, but look we are right there at 6th place I think. We still haven't played anywhere close to good basketball. We have to go into the break being positive and feeling good about ourselves, but the biggest thing is we all understand with our health coming into the second half we all want to be healthy and ready to play and again have the opportunity to defend our title." Barkley appeared on the Galloway and Company radio show KESN-FM last Tuesday and had this to say about Nowitzki's struggles to start the 2011-2012 season. "Dirk's getting old bro," the Pro Basketball Hall of Famer said. "Father Time is undefeated. You know, Dirk's been a great, great player for a long time and he's been in the playoffs pretty much every year. Father Time is catching up with him. "That's the way it happens, you drop off the face of the earth. His days of being the man are over. I hate to break it to you. I lived it. When you're a great player it hits you quicker, too, more than anybody because you have further to fall. You can be a guy like who's a good solid player and you can hide it for a couple years, but when you're a great player you have further to fall." -- Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
