The New York Knicks lost a big potential part of their rotation today when Shawne Williams elected to not re-sign with the team, opting to sign with the New Jersey Nets instead.

The Nets were able to lure Williams with the possibility of more playing time and more money. The Knicks, meanwhile, were only able to offer him their mini mid-level exemption of $2.5 million and didn’t even do that until after they fell out of the running for shooting guard Jamal Crawford.

In the meantime, the Knicks will have to turn their attention elsewhere. Here’s a look at a couple of players that the Knicks could target now that Williams is off the market.

Maurice Evans

Similar to Williams, Evans likes to shoot the corner three and is a decent defensive small forward. The Knicks could offer him their $2.5 million exemption.

Travis Outlaw

If the Nets use the amnesty clause on Outlaw, he could hop right across the river and sign with the Knicks. He doesn’t need the money, either, since the Nets would be paying off his contract.

Baron Davis

Even though he’s possibly out for 10 weeks, New York could look to lock up Davis for the stretch run of the season and improve the point guard position. There is mutual interest in Davis after Cleveland used their amnesty clause on him on Wednesday night.

If the Knicks lock up Davis, their offense could be outstanding when playoff time comes around.
