Surrounded by reporters you knew the question was going to come up.
“Kobe, with Kevin Durant closing in, how important is the scoring title to you?”
Kobe without hesitation replied:
“Not very important…not very important”
Wait, not very important? Excuse me for being a bit cynical, but this is Kobe Bryant we’re talking about. I’ll never question his will to win, or him EVER taking his team’s last shot, but this is the same Kobe Bryant who will fire off 30 shots in a game without hesitation. The same Kobe, who will jack shots even though he may have the best front court in the league with Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. I’m willing to bet he gets his 30 plus in his last two games of the regular season.
Kobe proceeded in backing up his claim of not caring about potentially winning his third scoring title, despite leading Durant by the slim margin of 27.89 ppg to 27.79 points per game by saying:
“San Antonio was playing me single coverage yesterday, if it was important, I would’ve scored 50.”
For the record, I actually hope Kobe does go out and drop 30 plus in his next two games to show how he has delayed the inevitable Father Time in his 16th NBA season. Kobe summed it up best by ending with this:
“You guys know I can get it, I’m not really tripping about it.”
