The Lakers got a reminder Tuesday night that after all the changes they've undergone, they still have a legendary scorer in Kobe Bryant. Bryant had his 83rd playoff game with at least 30 points when he scored 38 in the Lakers' 104-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets at Staples Center. The Lakers lead the series 2-0, with Game 3 in Denver on Friday night. Bryant took advantage of less double-team attention from Denver's defense and made 15 of 29 shots from the field. He had 31 points in the Game 1 victory, although this performance was more artistic. "In the first game, he was getting a lot of layups and getting to the basket," Nuggets guard Ty Lawson said. "This game, he was hitting tough shots. Like the coaches said, we played better defense, but he was on fire. And sometimes you can't do anything about it when he's hitting shots like that." Bryant had just three games with at least 30 points in the playoffs last season, when the Lakers played 10 times before bowing out. He said his body is fresher this time around. "I feel great," he said. "We're doing fine, playing well." NOTES, QUOTES: Brown says complaining Karl is just doing his job --Nuggets coach George Karl's public complaints about uncalled three-second violations on defense committed by Andrew Bynum in the Lakers' Game 1 victory led Lakers coach Mike Brown to say: "Coach Karl is just doing his job." Brown said he didn't know if working the referees really worked much, but he said he does believe refs read the newspapers. No three-second defensive violations went into the books against the Lakers in Game 2, though. --The Lakers' minor-league affiliate, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, dominated the NBA Development League's season but faltered when it mattered most. The D-Fenders won Game 1 at Austin to lead the best-of-three championship series, but they came home and lost two. QUOTE TO NOTE: "The game in this series is going to be how well we get back in transition." -- Lakers coach Mike Brown about playing the Denver Nuggets. ROSTER REPORT PLAYER NOTES: --G Kobe Bryant is auctioning the mask he wore to protect his broken nose this season. The eBay auction is raising funds for the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation. --F Jordan Hill has been charged with felony assault in Houston for allegedly trying to choke a former girlfriend before his trade from the Rockets to the Lakers. Hill said he was surprised by the charge and regretted the timing of the incident: "I'd like to apologize to the Lakers organization and to all of their fans for the untimeliness of these accusations. I promise to keep my focus and attention on the playoffs during this time and to help my team win another championship." He had a strong Game 2 with 10 rebounds Tuesday night. --C Andrew Bynum's triple-double in the playoff opener Sunday was the first by any center in the NBA postseason since David Robinson did it with San Antonio on May 7, 1993. Bynum became the sixth Laker to have a triple-double in the postseason, joining Magic Johnson, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and James Worthy.
