LeBron James and Stephen Curry will have the honor of picking their All-Star teams for the upcoming mid-season dog-and-pony show.

Curry himself is seemingly obligated to pick multiple members of his Golden State Warriors team, reigning NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant included.

For his part, James has yet to indicate one way or another how he’s going to go about picking his squad. But former teammate Kyrie Irving won’t be too worried if King James decides to leave him off his team.

“That’s exciting, man,” Irving said when TMZ Sports approached him about Curry and LeBron picking the teams. When asked if he’s expecting James to pick him first, Irving said “well see, we’ll see…it’s two captains.” Irving then went with the generic line that he’s “fortunate enough” to be in the All-Star Game when the reporter asked if his feelings would be hurt if James didn’t pick him.

Not for nothing, the entire Irving-James drama took a major turn during the summer when Cleveland dealt him to the Boston Celtics. Irving threw some major shade in James’ direction during the summer. He then doubled down by attacking the city of Cleveland as a sports city following the deal.

It’s most definitely going to be an interesting dynamic to look at. As a fellow point guard, it’s highly unlikely Curry will pick Irving first. Instead, that will likely go to a player in the front court.

This will put James in an awkward position, especially if his choice is between rival Kevin Durant and a former teammate that lost to the Warriors in the Finals as a member of the Cavaliers last June.

The NBA is a league of petty. And the Association is surely betting on this to continue as a way to create some major drama leading up to the All-Star Game.
