Dr. Jerry Buss‘ death earlier this year hit Laker fans hard. Jerry was extremely loved by the Lakers fan base, and he will never be forgotten.
His daughter, Jeanie Buss, recently revealed to ESPN Los Angeles radio that the Lakers will pay tribute to her father on January 28th next season when the purple and gold take on the Indiana Pacers:
We’re gonna celebrate Dr. Buss at a game on January 28 – his birthday was January 27 – so that will be a time that we can bring people together and celebrate his memory, and we’re coming up with ideas of how to do that.
Jeanie also spoke about the large number of legendary speakers who attended Dr. Buss’ memorial earlier in the year. She said that they didn’t even have to ask for them to speak at the service – they just pretty much volunteered – so who knows what they could put together if they really tried.
However, it seems that the tribute to Dr. Buss in January next year will be on a smaller scale. There was talk of a statue during Jeanie’s interview on the radio, but she didn’t really expand on any plans for her father to be bronzed just yet. It’s probably just a matter of time until Dr. Buss gets his well-deserved statue outside of Staples Center, though.
