Last Night in the NBA: Lakers Honor Jerry Buss With Win Win Over Celtics

Alan Anderson scored 15 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to keep their five-game winning-streak alive. Gay had an off-night, making five out of 15 shot attempts along with four turnovers. Zach Randolph had a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Mike Conley added 19 for the Grizzlies. Memphis is now on a five-game winning-streak. Detroit Pistons 105, Charlotte Bobcats 99 Brandon Knight led the Pistons for three quarters before leaving with a right knee injury, but Greg Monroe carried them in the fourth. Monroe scored 10 of his 17 points in the last period and Jose Calderon sealed the deal with clutch free throws. Kemba Walker scored 24 for the Bobcats. Indiana Pacers 125, New York Knicks 91 The Pacers shot 61-percent to have a 30-18 lead in the first quarter, and they added another 44 in the second. Meanwhile, New York shot 33-percent from the field and are on a three-game losing-streak. Paul George led Indiana with 27 points and eight rebounds.  Tyson Chandler had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks. Cleveland Cavaliers 105, New Orleans Hornets 100 With the Cavs down by four in the fourth, Uncle Drew aka Kyrie Irving came to the Cavaliers’ rescue. After his worst performance of the season the game before the All-Star break, Irving responded with a game that left everyone impressed. He  scored 20 of his 35 points in the last six minutes of the game with rookie Dion Waiters adding 16 points as the Cavaliers’ three-game losing-streak came to an end. Anthony Davis scored 12 points and grabbed four boards for the Hornets. Miami Heat 103, Atlanta Hawks 90 The Heat started the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run that turned their 10-point deficit into a three-point lead. Ray Allen and Shane Battier scored 24 points in the final period, as Miami outscored the Hawks 40-17 overall. The Heat have now won their last eight games. Al Horford led the Hawks with 27 points and nine rebounds. Brooklyn Nets 97, Milwaukee Bucks 94 Deron Williams made one-of-two free throws to give the Nets a three-point lead with 3.4 seconds left. However, Williams committed a costly mistake by fouling Monta Ellis on a three-pointer. Lucky for him, Ellis missed the first two and intentionally missed the third one, however the Bucks couldn’t grab the rebound as time expired. Wiliams had 23 points and eight assists for the Nets, who have now defeated the Bucks on back-to-back nights. Brandon Jennings had 31 points and 11 assists for Milwaukee. Houston Rockets 112, Oklahoma City Thunder 109 James Harden scored 42 points during the first two meetings against his former team, and now he scored a career-high 46 points (14-19 FG, 7-8 three pointers) on Wednesday night against them. With the Rockets down 14 with less than eight minutes left, they used a 21-4 run to get a 114-111 lead with less than two minutes to play. The Rockets were ahead by three when Kevin Durant, who ended up with a triple-double, forced a long three pointer that didn’t go down, and the Rockets grabbed the rebound and made two free throws to put the game away. Durant finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Minnesota Timberwolves 94, Philadelphia 76ers 87 The Timberwolves scored one field goal in the fourth quarter, but the Sixers couldn’t take advantage. The Wolves made 16 free throws during the last period. Nikola Pekovic led the the struggling Wolves with 27 points and 18 boards. Jrue Holiday scored 17 points for the Sixers, but struggled missing 10 of his 17 shots and fouled out. Dallas Mavericks 111, Orlando Magic 96 The Mavs held a four-point lead in the fourth quarter before ex-Magic guard Vince Carter sparked a 17-0 run, hitting a three-pointer along with three assists to put the Magic away. The Mavericks doubled the score in the fourth quarter, 28-14, that helped Dallas maintain their playoff hopes. Shawn Marion scored 17 points and eight rebounds. Los Angeles Lakers 113, Boston Celtics 99 The Lakers, who honored Jerry Buss before the game, started to look like a team. Dwight Howard had a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Howard was one of seven Lakers in double-figures. The Lakers outrebounded the Celtics in the paint, 54-30, while hitting 51-percent of their shots. Boston kept the game pretty even, but the Lakers outscored the Celtics by nine in the first quarter, and that was the difference. Paul Pierce, subject of many trade rumors,  had 26 points. Golden State Warriors 108, Phoenix Suns 98 The Warriors started the game making 14 out of their first 19 shots, behind Klay Thompson’ six-for-six shooting and they never looked back. The Suns closed the gap multiple times, but they didn’t take the lead. David Lee had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Warriors, who snapped their six-game losing streak, had their last win against the Suns on Feb. 2.
