An attorney for Denver Nuggets center Chris Andersen claimed Friday his client was the victim of extortion by a jaded young woman and not a suspect in a child pornography probe. Andersen's Denver-area home was searched Thursday by a police unit investigating internet crimes against children. But the Nuggets star's attorney, Colin Bresee, added a new twist to the troubling story, telling The Denver Post in a statement that a 21-year-old female fan from California threatened to retaliate after Andersen declined her advances. "A female fan in 2010 mailed Mr. Andersen multiple letters and included several photos in which she was scantily clad," Bresee's statement read, according to the paper. "Chris and this woman communicated with each other and in 2011, this woman, who represented herself as 21 years of age, flew to Colorado, showing her required identification. "After leaving Colorado, she became upset at his lack of interest. In 2012, she threatened to retaliate if he did not provide financial remuneration." Bresee did not specifically link the woman and the recent search of his client's home, but did say the media was not necessarily painting a full picture. "The media has been speculating that he's a suspect and not a victim in a criminal investigation," Bresee said. "We're confident [the investigation] will show that Chris did not engage in any criminal conduct." Andersen, 33, has not been arrested or charged with a crime. The sheriff's office said it began investigating Andersen in February based on information provided by a law enforcement agency in California. Andersen, nicknamed "Birdman" and known for his colorful tattoos, was excused by the Nuggets from all team-related activities indefinitely on Thursday. Denver is currently locked in a first-round playoff battle with the Los Angeles Lakers.
