LeBron James is loving life right now, and in a really comfortable spot as a player.
Is James really that comfortable with his standing in the NBA?
Well if he goes ahead with his plan to honor Dr. J, Â we will all find out how comfortable in the public eye. Â During his much publicized interview with Chris Broussard, James once again paid homage to the great Julius Irving.
During their discussion, LeBron talked about how he had Dr. J in the top three players of all time, and he talked about âpossibly wearing those old school, short shorts this season.â
âThe conversation was âWho do I like?â â James said, clarifying his comments. âWho were my three? Who were my favorite three of all time?â No one knows whoâs the greatest three players of all time. Itâs impossible. No one can say whoâs the best three of all time. Youâre going to have Jordan there for sure. But after that, you can have Bird, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Bill Russell, Oscar, Jerry West, Dr. J. You might even throw LeBron in there, maybe.ââŚ
âAs a kid I always heard the name (Dr. J),â James said. âAnd being a huge Jordan fan, I always knew Jordan looked up to Dr. J. So I was like, âWow, who is Dr. J? If Jordanâs saying he aspired to be like this guy, I want to know who it is.â And as I got the opportunity to meet him over All-Star weekend and stuff like that, heâs just an unbelievable guy. So you start liking someone like that.â
âIâm just wondering how in the heck they played like that,â James said of the tiny shorts. âI might bring it back, though. I might play in some small shorts this year. Pay my homage to the â80s, to Dr. J and John Stockton. I donât think itâs going to catch on, but Iâm going to do it one game, maybe opening night. I canât go all the way up (the legs), though. Athletes today are built a little differently in the legs.â
What do my readers think, can James get away with pulling this look off in 2013?
