LeBron James will announce his plans during a one-hour television special, to be aired on Thursday at 9pm on ESPN.

According to reports, James’ team will sell advertising for the special, which will go to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Now we know “when.” The “where” is still very much up in the air. As of yesterday, LeBron’s plans were reportedly to stay in Cleveland, with the Cavs working to add Chris Bosh via a sign-and-trade with Toronto. Problem is, Bosh doesn’t seem at all interested in spending the next several years of his life in Cleveland.

If Bosh won’t agree to go to the Cavs, he and James could sign as a duo with another team – Chicago and Miami being the most likely destinations. Or, James could strike out on his own.

The latter scenario is most appealing to Knick fans. Recent reports suggest the Knicks don’t like their chances to sign James and have shifted focus to Dwyane Wade. But Team LeBron hasn’t ruled out any potential destination – and ESPN’s Chris Broussard, who has been discounting the Knicks’ chances for weeks, now says New York is “very much alive.” Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld reports that James’ close advisors Maverick Carter and Randy Mims could be in the city today to meet with Knick management.

The other big question – how is LeBron going to fill an entire hour? All he really needs to say is, “I’m going to sign with [INSERT TEAM NAME HERE]” and pull on the appropriate cap.
