In another sign of the NBA's ridiculousness, the league formally announced Wednesday the start of voting for the All-Star game.
Even if Andrew Bynum has played in only three games so far, that's enough to impress Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing. As the Orlando Magic's assistant coach, Ewing put Bynum on his first ballot during the NBA All-Star tip-off conference in Florida...
Did Patty Mills fake an injury in China?
On Tuesday, Yahoo! Sports' own Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the China Basketball Association had released point guard Patrick Mills from his contract. It was a bit of a curious move considering how much money Xinjiang had invested in Mills for the season, but he'd also missed 10 days with a hamstring injury. Perhaps it was more serious than...

POTD 1/3/12: Slammin’ Sammy D on Pau Gasol
Had I not been saving this video for Poster of the Day I would’ve had one good thing to say about Sammy in this morning’s thoughts. See, I’m not a hater… I just tell it how it is!
Add another play to the ever-misleading Dumbles highlight reel. He has had his fair share of nice dunks in his day… I’ll give him that. Oh, this makes Pau...

Thursdays And-1 links, where Lakers fans are just wrong
Welcome to our morning look around the NBA — links to stories worth reading and notes to check out (stuff that did not get its own post here at PBT). In this poll, 56 percent of Lakers fans would rather have Andrew Bynum as their starting center over Dwight Howard. Those fans are fools. I’m…
Wallace, Aldridge lead Blazers by Lakers (AP)

LaMarcus Aldridge added 28 points and 10 rebounds for Portland, which led by as many as 14 points. The Blazers had just four turnovers despite pushing the tempo for the entire game.
LOWE: Are the Trail Blazers truly contenders?

The Lakers are winless on the road. The Blazers have the best record in the NBA. The Mavericks scored 42 points (!) in three quarters against the Spurs. Just another wacky night in the NBA.
Valhalla for Quitters
According to Lynn Zinser of the New York Times, Santonio might be joining the great pantheon of sports quitters like Scottie Pippen, Roberto Duran, and many more.
Holmes, for his part, does have a Super Bowl victory and a most valuable player trophy from it. But the Steelers also shipped the talented wide receiver out of Pittsburgh only one season after that Super Bowl triumph —...
