Roughly 24 hours after the Los Angeles Lakers unveiled their “#StayD12” campaign, ESPN’s Chris Broussard has reported Dwight Howard is unlikely to re-sign with the Lakers, according to a source. The main reason for Howard’s desire to leave, according to the source, is his unhappiness with coach Mike D’Antoni and his offense.  Howard often took a backseat to Kobe Bryant on offense, and at times, to Pau Gasol as well.  That was a drastic change for someone who was once a top dog. Despite that, mainly believed, and still do, that Howard will not turn down the fifth year and additional $30 million only the Lakers can provide him with on his contract. Whether Howard chooses to leave Los Angeles or not, this is another example of his habitual indecisiveness.  Let us not forget, this is the same player who in December of 2011, requested a trade from Orlando, and then in March of 2012, waived his early termination option to remain with the team he had been trying to abandon.  Out of fear of losing him and having nothing to show for it, the Magic opted to trade Howard in August of 2012.  He was now the Lakers’ problem. Some will argue Howard’s best chances of winning a championship are with the Dallas Mavericks or Houston Rockets.  While that may be true, it would only be the case for next season.  With numerous contracts coming off the books, the Lakers are set to become financially flexible after the 2013-2014 season and no franchise has shown the longevity and ability to reload that the Lakers have. A lot can happen before the ink is dry on a contract, but all signs currently point to “Superman” once again having his cape on, ready to fly out of town due to less than perfect circumstances.
