Tarkanian has been retired since 2002, but he continues to call Las Vegas his home since his controversial coaching career ended. It’s kind of a wonder a “30 for 30” wasn’t made solely telling the story of the living legend who inspired the movie “Blue Chips.” It’s almost like Tarkanian was born to break the rules, and born to piss off the NCAA. And it’s no wonder teams kept hiring the Pablo Escobar of NCAA basketball. “Tark the Shark,” nicknamed so for chewing on towels during games, always left a trail of blood behind him, from his Division I beginnings with Long Beach State. At Long Beach State, Tarkanian took in a rag-tag group of community college transfers and turned them into a relative force, winning six NCAA tournament games in the three years after joining Division I.
