LeBron James has been teasing NBA fans about appearing in the Slam Dunk Contest ever since entering the league in 2003, but he has yet to participate. He even said in December that he was too old for it. But after a recent string of dominating dunks LeBron threw down in pregame warmups went viral, the hunger for James to participate has grown. Now, Magic Johnson is getting in on the act with an offer that would be difficult to decline.
During ESPN’s pregame show Friday, Magic said he would put up $1 million for LeBron to do the dunk contest. He then somewhat changed his stance by offering $1 million to the winner if LeBron participates, making the offer more of a purse than appearance fee for King James.
“Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I’m going to put up a million dollars,” Johnson said on ESPN’s Kia NBA Countdown. “A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”

LeBron James didn’t say he would participate in next year’s NBA dunk contest, but he didn’t say he wouldn’t, either.
James spoke with ESPN’s Lisa Salters before Sunday’s Heat-Knicks matchup, and when asked about Magic Johnson’s $1 million offer, King James played coy.
“I don’t have a response yet,” James told Salters. “Tell [Johnson] I’ll get back to him.”...
Fans can sure be stupid sometimes.
Here you have one of the best basketball players to ever play the game, and he likes to put on a little show during warm-ups for the fans by performing some crazy dunks. What do we do? We complain and harass the man about not performing in the Dunk Contest.

LeBron James has said publicly over the years that he thinks about participating in the dunk contest.
It's the question a decade in the making: Should LeBron James do the dunk contest or not?
For a while, it looked as though a pair of long streaks were in jeopardy.
That is, until LeBron James finally got going - at the perfect time.

It's been a long time since we saw a team have as much fun and be as successful as the Miami Heat. Currently the best team in the NBA, the Heat absolutely no worries as they finish out the regular season with the best record in the East. There has been talk in recent years that guys like LeBron James would be interested in the All-Star Dunk Contest if there was a better prize involved--something like a cool million bucks or something (current prize is $100K to the winner and $50K to second place).
