PLAYERS: Glen Davis
TEAMS: Orlando Magic
The Magic's owners might be in some hot water thanks to a political boycott, but it is important to remember that the Magic are independent of their officers and owners and do a lot of amazing work in the community and for the city of Orlando -- and really all of Central Florida. The Orlando Sentinel named the Magic one of the top 100 companies for working families Friday, a reminder of all the good the Magic do for the city. The Sentinel recognizes 100 companies that that strive to make a difference in the lives of families. The Magic received the Community Service Champion Award at the award luncheon Friday. "The Magic is thrilled and honored to receive recognition in both areas," said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins in a press release. "Our ownership group, the DeVos family, has always encouraged our staff to volunteer, even during work hours. It is through that encouragement that the Magic Volunteer Program (MVP) was born. It is because of the DeVos’ commitme...

Dwight Howard reportedly cancels appearance at his own Orlando youth camp

Dwight Howard is not exactly making new friends in Orlando as the days go by. By all accounts, the relationship between him and the team has gone sour. Yet, somehow, it seems like it may never end. On Monday, the number of Dwight fans in the Orlando area shrunk a bit more when he reportedly cancelled a scheduled appearance at his own youth basketball camp. According to the Orlando...

Glen Davis endorses Magic new coach

Jacque Vaughn impressed many in his introductory press conference. He sang a very different tune than former head coach Stan Van Gundy, sticking to and echoing the same catchphrases and terms from general manager Rob Hennigan. Vaughn is very much a coach in the Gregg Popovich family and thus will fit in with the Magic are trying to build -- sustainable and long-term success for...

Dwight Howard Skips Own Youth Basketball Camp, Delivers Another Blow to His Own Reputation

What a guy, that Dwight Howard. He is in fine shape to travel to Los Angeles and attend Dodgers games, but the Orlando Magic center is unable to attend his own basketball camp. For kids, we might add. Howard, who is recovering from surgery on a herniated disk in his lower back, sent an email to campers at his annual youth basketball day camp informing them that he would remain in...

After paying their $199 camp fee, campers receive email that Dwight Howard is skipping his camp

The year of Dwight Howard missteps just continues to roll on. Apparently tired of trying to get coaches fired and telling us he won’t sign an extension with anyone, Howard has now turned his attention to ducking out on his own camp. At the moment, Howard is still scheduled to “give daily talks” during his camp, but according to the Orlando Sentinel, the company that runs Dwight...

Dwight Howard officially becomes biggest butthole in sports

Please excuse the hyperbole. I am not comparing Howard to someone who stupidly chooses to drive drunk, or hit their wife, or refuses to pay child support (though I wouldn’t be surprised to see him guilty of that). But the Orlando Magic center who has the world as his oyster, and he is choosing to [...]

Questions raised for DeVos family

The DeVos family is personally under attack right now thanks to the boycott on their company, Amway. Again, everyone should form their own opinion and make their own decisions with the information available when it comes to that issue. We need to move back to basketball. The DeVos family has owned the Magic since the 1992 season. Since then they have seen the Magic rise and fall...

Shaquille O'Neal Dominated Paint Like No Other Center During NBA Career (Video)

It seems like only yesterday that Shaquille O'Neal arrived in the NBA, testing the structural integrity of basketball rims everywhere. O'Neal officially arrived in the NBA 20 years ago Tuesday, when the Orlando Magic signed the No. 1 draft pick on Aug. 7, 1992. Over the next 19 years, the 7-foot-1, 330-pound behemoth challenged conventions while shattering backboards. His...
