Matt Bonner is about to join an elite group of Spurs

Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and George Gervin will need to make some space soon to welcome a new player among their elite group of San Antonio Spurs.

When the Spurs begin their season October, 28th against the Oklahoma City Thunder, it will mark the 10th consecutive season center Matt Bonner has been with the team. A feat only accomplished previously by the all-time NBA greats mentioned above. Bonner is taking the news with his trademark self-deprecating style.

“That sounds like the punchline to a joke,” said Bonner in reference to his accomplishment. “It makes me feel like a printing error.”

The Spurs originally signed Bonner in 2006 after the center spent his first two seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors. Although Bonner has only averaged six points per game for his career, he has also shot an impressive 41.4% from beyond the arc during that time.
