Friday morning on my radio show, “Chuck and Vince Live” on The Fan AM 1060, my partner Chuck Powell asked Suns big man Channing Frye what it’s like going up against players like Boston’s Kevin Garnett, whom Frye probably looked up to when he was younger.
Frye squelched that talk, answering “I definitely didn’t have his poster on my wall, and I didn’t grow up idolizing him.”

Maybe now we know why. In the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game between the Suns and Celtics at U.S. Airways Center, Frye spotted up for a three pointer. Garnett closed out on Frye, extending a leg underneath him, impeding his landing spot, all while delivering a half-punch to Frye’s groin area.
Understandably, Frye took exception, got up, and got right in Garnett’s face. The pair had to be separated and Garnett earned an ejection for his actions.
After the Suns wrapped up the 88-71 win over the Celtics, Frye commented on Garnett’s tactics.
“I don’t want to make that a big deal, a bigger deal than what it is,” Frye said. “I think the league is gonna take care of that. You know, it was just a play and I didn’t really agree with it.”
Frye also insinuated that it wasn’t the first time K-G pulled that move on him. “Once? Maybe. Twice? That’s a little much,” Frye said.
