TEAMS: Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets
It's only been two games, but the Mavericks are already showing signs that not re-signing Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea might be a decision that haunts Mark Cuban for a long time. After all, if Vince Carter, Lamar Odom and Delonte West don't meet expectations, Cuban will receive the bulk of the blame.
Then again, if you believe in what former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady recently said, the Mavs owner could easily be looking like a genius by the end of the summer.
During a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski , McGrady, who is 32 and playing for the Atlanta Hawks , predicted that Dallas would be the landing spot for arguably the best big man in the game, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.
And it didn't stop there. McGrady also projects New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams, who is a free agent at the end of the season, to choose the Mavericks.
"D-Will is from Dallas," McGrady said. "You've got Dirk Nowitzki there. They're going to have cap space there. That looks sweet. Dirk. D-Will. And then you get Dwight Howard. That's it, right there."
McGrady added: "Dwight's going to find a sweeter spot for him next year with him being a free agent, with D-Will being a free agent, and Dallas already having an established star there. ... Yup, Dallas."
Howard, Williams and Nowitzki, the three Ds? That's combined career averages around 60 points, 25 rebounds and 14 assists per game. It sounds too good to be true. But while it's a scenario that's much easier said than done, it is possible.
Just keep that in mind if the Mavs don't quickly get things turned around.

McGrady can picture Howard and D-Will in Dallas

The New Jersey Nets have high hopes this season.
