Carmelo Anthony had 26 points and nine rebounds, and the New York Knicks bounced back from their first loss of the season, beating the Indiana Pacers 88-76 on Sunday. JR Smith added 13 points and Raymond Felton had 11 for the Knicks in their only home game in a span of seven games. After falling 105-95 at Memphis on Friday, the Knicks (7-1) go right back on the road to start another three-game trip Tuesday in New Orleans. In a game that was ugly even without Jason Kidd's bad headband style, neither team shot 40 percent, but the Knicks built a big early lead, went up by as much as 20 and were never challenged. Paul George scored 20 points for the Pacers, who remained inept offensively as they played without leading scorer Danny Granger. They hoped they had broken out with an impressive 103-point performance against Dallas on Friday, but managed only 30 first-half points. David West added 14 points in Indiana's sixth straight road loss. The Pacers came in allowing an NBA-...

NBA Early Season Report Card

Fan map of the NBA   In every sport whenever a new season is about to tip off every team has high expectations for their squad. But after the first couple weeks of the NBA season I feel like we can already tell how each team will play out for the rest of the year. In this column I will be talking about the most surprising teams to begin the NBA year, and the most disappointing teams...

Why You Always Trade for a Superstar: The Carmelo Anthony Story

The New York Knicks Gamble on Carmelo Anthony Is Paying Huge Dividends   Remember way back yonder when the New York Knicks were vilified for trading for a selfish ball hog in Carmelo Anthony? How could those knuckleheads down there think they could win with a no-d-playing, selfish, cancerous gunner? Well those days are long [...]

Grizzlies Show Carmelo Anthony, Knicks That Going Small Can Be Fun and Successful, But Costly Defensively

By the middle of the third quarter, Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks seemed to be focusing as much of their energy at the officials as they were at the opposing players. Every time the Grizzlies got the ball, they were intent on pounding the ball at Anthony in the post, victimizing the de facto power forward with one of their twin big men, Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph. This was the...

J.R. Smith: I partied too much last season

New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith says he partied too much last season.   “I’m not going to lie, the New York City nightlife pretty much got to me,” Smith said via the New York Post Thursday morning before scoring 17 points to help the knicks defeat the Spurs 104-100.. “I was going out pretty much every other night and not focused on the task at hand.” Smith added that...

Amar'e Stoudemire may not start for Knicks after return

New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson was asked Tuesday during the team's morning shootaround if Amar'e Stoudemire will return as starting power forward.  He wouldn't really say. “I’m going to address that when we get to that point,’’ Woodson said at New Orleans Arena via The New York Post. “Right now I’m just taking it a day at a time and work the guys we...

Pacers splutter against Knicks

Remember when the Knicks and Pacers used to be a heated rivalry? Yeah, I missed those days too.Right now, however, the Knicks are in a different class. One team had only lost one game all season. The other was 4-6. They have Carmelo Anthony, and the closest thing the Pacers have (had) is Danny Granger, who remains out with a knee injury. So the result was not unexpected, although...

Knicks-Hornets Preview

Having bounced back from their first loss, the New York Knicks may be poised to start stringing together wins again. The Knicks open a three-game trip looking to hand the New Orleans Hornets a fourth consecutive defeat Tuesday night. Two days after a 105-95 loss to Memphis, New York (7-1) defeated Indiana 88-76 on Sunday. Carmelo Anthony had 26 points and nine rebounds as the Knicks...

New York Knicks Sitting Pretty Early in the 2012-13 Season

Photo by D. Clarke Evans/Getty Images The New York Knicks have been tremendous to say the least leading the Eastern Conference in the early stage of this 2012-13 season. Particularly, defeating elite teams like the Miami Heat (8-3) and San Antonio Spurs (8-2). Mike Woodson’s team has been impressive in various ways. The Leadership of Carmelo Anthony: Anthony has finally built...

Knicks 88, Pacers 76

NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks responded to their first loss of the season by more closely resembling the team that started the season unbeaten after six games. The Knicks used a stifling defense coupled with some poor shooting by the Indiana Pacers, 26 points from top scorer Carmelo Anthony and solid play from several of his teammates to top Indiana 88-76 at Madison Square Garden...

Defensive-minded Knicks drop Pacers

NEW YORK -- They were coming off a three-game road trip, their first loss of the season and faced an early game Sunday, and the New York Knicks found themselves struggling to score in the first half. No matter. These Knicks have quickly prided themselves on forming a brick wall on defense, from their defensive-minded coach Mike Woodson, all the way to their notoriously offensively...

Starting 5: Perfect no more

Every morning, we will give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day. 1: Knicks go down New York was not going 82-0. That is virtually impossible with the way the NBA schedule is constructed. Going 6-0 was surprise in itself for a team that seemingly lacked offensive fluidity and was nominally good at defense, but hardly elite. In the first weeks of...

Here's your soundtrack for this one. Play in the background, or not. Tonight in Memphis, the New York Knicks did something they haven't done all year, and something that every other team has done already. They lost, for the first time, and while the result wasn't in any way surprising (they were on the down slope of a back to back, they had extended a lot of energy...
