San Antonio Spurs fans have watched closely as Cory Joseph led the Canadian National Team through the first round of the FIBA Americas Championship before Canada hit a few bumps in the road in the second round that eventually led to them losing out on a bid to the World Cup in Spain next summer.
Joseph looked impressive and appeared to continually progress after a nice Finals run, followed by him leading the Spurs summer league squad in Vegas.
Another player that has watched plenty of Joseph was right there with Joseph in Caracas as one of the city of San Antonio’s other representatives.
Orlando Mendez-Valdez, a San Antonio native and Lanier High School graduate is currently starting at shooting guard for the Mexican National Team that has surprised many, especially considering they didn’t qualify for the FIBA Americas Championship and replaced Panama, who was banned from international play this summer.
Mendez-Valdez, who naturally followed the Spurs growing up in ...

After reading the San Antonio Spurs Offseason Report Card on NBA.com, I, for the most part, am in agreement with the conclusion they came to.
To begin, I would say that I fall in the group of Spurs fans that believe continuity is still our best shot at winning another championship this year. That said, I agree with most of the individual grades given in the report.
Former Spurs guard Stephen Jackson allegedly choke former Rockets guard Steve Francis at a club.
In this video courtesy of BlackSportsOnline, Stephen Jackson moonlights as a rapper, apparently didn’t like something Steve Francis did behind him, and can be seen on video trying to choke him out.
Francis is hilarious with that damn, what did I do look on his face.
San Antonio Spurs' Danny Green has been a very busy man this summer. Seemingly to always be in constant motion, Green has stayed active to say the least. He’s gone all the way from China, to New York, to touring South Texas. And those are only just a few of the spots he was able to hit this summer.
In an interview with Maxim, Green had this to say about his travels...
There was a lot of talk last year about the San Antonio Spurs carrying seven guards into the season. This offseason already looks to be the same in that regard. The only real difference being Gary Neal was replaced by Marco Belinelli.
As the gloom that resulted from the Spurs' finals loss faded this summer, news started to emerge the Spurs were either working out or...
The San Antonio Spurs have long been known for employing their draft and stash strategy with their international talent. Tiago Splitter, Nando De Colo and Manu Ginobili are a few of the players that the Spurs have let mature overseas and then bring over to the NBA.
Deshaun Thomas, the Spurs' 2013 second round pick, was a player they were hoping to help at the small forward...
There hasn’t been a single team in NBA history impacted in any significant way by their 15th man and the 2013-14 Spurs won’t be the first.
That much is clear from the collection of has-beens are-nots and never-weres with whom they’ve been connected in recent weeks about possibly filling their final roster spot — Josh Childress Mickael Pietrus Sebastian Telfair Sam Young...
The San Antonio Spurs 2013-14 season is inching ever so close which means the players will be hitting the gym to get back in shape for training camp and preseason games.
Danny Green is already hitting the gym and from the looks of the videos below, it seems he is eager to get back on the court and putting in the sweat to the point he yells, "It hurts!"
A common dilemma facing contending teams is when to use resources to keep the team in contention versus knowing when to sell off pieces to help you rebuild for the next championship window.
The Chicago Bulls have felt that it is always better to trade an aging superstar or a key role player a season or two early as opposed to having them retire a Bull, Scottie Pippen’s time...
Italy defeated Greece 81-72 in EuroBasket 2013 Pool Play on Sunday.
Marco Belinelli had 23 points and seven rebounds, while Gigi Datome scored 19.
Nikos Zisis led Greece with 16 points.
The San Antonio Spurs acquired Marco Belinelli in the offseason which should bolster the team's bench heading into next season.
After coming close to a fifth title in franchise history last season, the Spurs needed to ensure the team is loaded with talent considering the rest of the Western Conference will be packed with playoff bound teams such as the Thunder.
Tracy McGrady was a really, really good NBA player. Like with most freshly retired, really good yet not decidingly dominant players, people want to debate whether or not said player deserves to be enshrined in Springfield. Such speculation is a sports fan’s birth right, but when it comes to McGrady, the answer should be a resounding ‘yes.’ The case for McGrady is clear cut...
According to RidiculousUpside, the San Antonio Spurs will be working out forward James Nunnally. The 6’7” UC Santa Barbara alum played last year in the D-League with the Bakersfield Jam. He averaged 10.3 points and shot 41 percent on 3-point attempts.
The scouting report on Nunnally seems to fit perfectly with the Spurs mold. He’s been compared to Danny Green as...
After France and Italy won both of their respective Eurobasket games on Monday, the two teams returned to the floor Tuesday in their final games of the first round.
France looked like a totally different team after one half Tuesday, as they were the ones chasing Belgium for 20 minutes of the game (down 46-34 by halftime). However, France used a strong defensive and offensive...
After finishing the first round of the 2013 FIBA Eurobasket as the top team in Group A, the French National team resumed their participation in the competition with a match against Lithuania on Wednesday.
From the get-go, it was Lithuania's defense that was story of the game as they held the French national team spotlight players to lower numbers than they had been scoring...
Editor's note: Please welcome John Diaz formerly of Air Alamo to the Project Spurs' team. Here is his debut post and what a way to start off here at Project Spurs with a post on Dennis Rodman.
Having a Hall of Fame basketball player train your athletes for the Olympics seems like a great idea. But when that Hall of Famer is former San Antonio Spurs blonde bombshell...
