Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan sees the challenge of Robert Pera for what it is: not something to be taken seriously. Michael Jordan brushed it off as “comical,” the Charlotte Observer reports. The Chicago Bulls legend and NBA icon received a 1-on-1 challenge from Grizzlies owner Robert Pera, who offered to play for a $1 million prize. The winning purse would later be donated to charity. Michael Jordan called the offer “a no-win situation for me.” And he’s right, Pera’s arrangement was never actually newsworthy; or anything of substance. Sure, it would be great to donate a million bucks to a great cause, but I’m sure he didn’t actually think Michael Jordan would take him up on it. Bob Pera did succeed though in getting us to get about his very small market franchise during the NBA preseason. The Grizzlies are a brand that isn’t instantly recognizable, and it’s a challenge to get people talking about them. Especially so during the exhibition season. Football dominates the conversation right now, and hockey is in regular season now. It takes the star power of Michael Jordan to move the conversation here. Paul M.
