In a amusing little video from the marketing wizards at the NBA, Milwaukee Bucks stars and presumed best buddies Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis have been likened to the two most famous residents of Milwaukee, fictional or perhaps even otherwise, save for maybe Jeffrey Dahmer (but why would I go there, for crying out loud?): Laverne De Fazio & Shirley Feeney. For all of you youngsters out there, first things first: Laverne & Shirley was a spinoff of Happy Days and a delightful comedy program in its own right that aired from 1976-1983. Penny Marshall (who became a respected director of film and at one point, about the only celebrity the Clippers could boast was a fan) starred as Laverne and Cindy Williams, who went on to, uh, forever be known as the character she portrayed in the show, Shirley. Laverne and Shirley lived in the fine Wisconsin city of Milwaukee and toiled away during the day at Shotz Brewery and spent their evenings at the Pizza Bowl with Carmine “The Big Ragu” Ragusa while fending off the advances of Lenny and Squiggy. Well, it made perfect sense to someone at NBA HQ who must be at least as old as I am to make the connection between the two shining stars of the Bucks and the well-known fictitious residents of Milwaukee. Ha. Killer theme song. Although I wish they would have figured out a way to reenact the scene where Laverne and Shirley put that glove on a bottle while working at the brewery in the intro. That would have been nostalgic and neat. And no matter which way you slice it, picking Laverne and Shirley as Wisconsites worthy of comparison sure beats the heck out of likening the Bucks players to Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein. Yeah, I went there again. [H/T PBT] TweetThe post Milwaukee Bucks stars Brandon Jennings, Monta Ellis are ‘Laverne & Shirley’ (video) appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.
