PLAYERS: Mark Cuban
TEAMS: Dallas Mavericks

Via Los That Sports Blog:

The internet has been buzzing for a the last 24 afters since outspoken Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he would be willing to take Brittney Griner in the second round of the NBA draft. Here are his comments:

“If she is the best on the board, I will take her,” Cuban said before the Mavs’ Tuesday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers. “I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I’d lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it’s not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it.”

Well, alright. Cuban is a master at marketing and utilizing the media for publicity, so him saying he would take Griner is no shock. Wednesday, Griner sent Cuban a tweet in response to his statements:

While Griner was an exceptional player in women’s college basketball and most likely be just as great as a professional, there’s little belief that she would be equally as successful against professional men players. But that isn’t the point.

The point is, Griner has nothing to lose by trying and would only benefit herself by doing so. If Cuban would indeed draft her, he’s bringing more positive publicity to his franchise. It’s a win for both sides. Griner should at least test the process.

  • Of course Brittany Griner can hang with NBA players.

She can hang out with them in the nightclubs poppin' bottles, during meals, playing video games or just chillin' but NOT on the NBA basketball court.

Not criticizing her game as a female ball player playing women’s basketball but the media and women need to stop all the madness thinking that because a woman is athletic and dominant in her female sport that she can physically play contact/violence demanding sports against men and be successful.

Physical contact sports and not individual sports like tennis or golf.

It's like the many women sports reporters/analysts who talk about and harshly critique football players.

Women don't have the slightest clue regarding the mental, physical and violent nature of football because they have never played the sport. they can't run, can't catch and certainly aren’t physically conditioned enough to take and absorb a severe hit or gang tackle.

Also because women work out at fitness centers regularly, you're still not naturally and physically stronger (based on physical genetics) than men that leads to a lot of this chatter about women competing directly with men in a physical fashion.

Men are just being polite and allow women to compete with them on a much lower physical level because if everything was equal and mano e mano, they don't stand a chance and would complain at every turn.

At 6 ft, 8 in, Griner, would not play center in the men's NBA, she can barely jump and can barely dunk a basketball in a women's game. She has limited ball handling skills, lacks foot/overall speed, lacks enough physical strength and she's awkward.

Her only reason for her dominance is only because despite having limited skills, she’s taller than everyone else. If Griner were 6 feet , she would never make it in women’s basketball.

She won't be able to compete with the 12th man on any NBA team or any players in the D-League and not because she's not physically capable nut also because the men will not allow her to embarrass them and will crush her on purpose with every opportunity.

I never say this about women, regarding equality and opportunity but in this case, "know your place and stay in your place".

  • She has got to be delusional to think she has any chance what so ever.
  • Earth to Brittany Griner, No You Can't! Most MALE college stars can't hang in the NBA.
  • Uhhh, yeah, what they said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • okay cuban, put your money where your big mouth is. sign her and play her.
