From NESN:

No one ever questioned Charles Oakley's toughness during his 19-year NBA career. But that isn't stopping him from criticizing others.

Oakley appeared on The Jim Rome Show on Tuesday, and he had plenty to say about Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, among others. The longtime Knicks big man said that he doesn't consider KG to be as tough as he wants other players to believe.

"Garnett left Minnesota and hollered and screamed and all that but he's not a tough guy. He's one of the weakest guys to ever play the game," Oakley said. "He's a complementary player and went to Paul Pierce's team and won a championship. I wouldn't consider him a top 10 tough guy."

Oakley then decided that ripping into The Big Ticket wasn't enough. He also took a shot at one of Garnett's former teammates, Kendrick Perkins, later on in the show.

"He's just like Garnett. They holler and complain," Oakley said of Perk. "If Kendrick Perkins would play basketball, Oklahoma City would win a championship the next three or four years...[He brings] Nothing [to the table]. That's why he got dunked on and he got mad about someone tweeting about it. You're a power forward, you don't let guys dunk on you. I played 18, 19 years, I got dunked on three times. You're limited on offense, do something on defense, get a rebound make some free throws."

Oakley, of course, is referring to Perkins expressing his displeasure with LeBron James tweeting that Perk should be embarrassed about getting emphatically dunked on by Blake Griffin.

But even before Oakley's outburst on the former Boston center, he momentarily steered away from the C's to take a shot at Charles Barkley, whom he battled in the paint for years before the two retired. He called Barkley "a coward" and "a fraud."

"Barkley for his size was a good player, but he's a coward though," Oakley said. "He was a good player for his size but, he wasn't a leader and wasn't a role model. Now he talks so bad about younger guys, I don't respect that from him...He's a fraud, he can criticize all the younger kids and if he got something to say, call them and talk to them before you just blast them. He's wants to be funny, that whole TNT thing and all that, they're like some clowns on that show."

Well, we can probably rule out Oakley joining the TNT crew anytime soon. And Garnett and Perkins probably wouldn't be too welcoming if he were to show up to their respective locker rooms, either.

  • Charles Barkley needs to be shot with s##t and killed for stinking. He's obnoxious, loud ignorant mouth and I was among the happiest people when the sixers finally got rid of his country a##.He's a show off and an alledged college graduate, you'd never know he finished elementery school.I remember when the cops stopped his "under the influence" country a## with the white prostitute and he offered the cop a B.J. by the female. He should have gotten more time for that incident but appeared to have recieved preferential treatment.I don't know this Oakley person but he has to have more class and skills than the "mouth from the south"If I needed to drop some pounds I certainly wouldn't use the product he's endorsing.
  • Sorry to bust your bubble, but it wasn't a prostitute he was caught with and what the helz does her being white have to do with anything. YOU sound like the Ignorant one for saying that!
  • right on..
  • You "don't know this Oakley person", but you have an awful lot to say about Barclay. I guess you know Charles Barkley, huh...whatever...
  • the NBA sad to say is a clown show of look at me's.Its predictible and hard to watch for more than 5 minutes, but most fans have a 5 minute intellect so they are happy with this.Sad.
  • Barkley is one of the most ignorant and obnoxious commentators. It is definitely a shame that he is allowed to represent as a voice of the NBA. He makes that entire group look stupid. He does not think before he speaks, he's ignorant and cannot speak, and he is a slob. He has no class and he talks bad about the young players while he lacked leadership abilities while he played on the court. He begins these "white people" rants as he did when he played and it is a bigger turn off due to the ignorant SOB wanting to be an analyst of the sport. It is time that someone evaluated that whole TNT analyst group and do something about him. I cannot even stand to watch when he opens his big mouth because of the unexpected ignorance that may emerge. I am not one of those "white people" that he is so ready to attack when his character is addressed. I know a lot of non-whites who cannot stand him and we wish he would go hide under a rock (if he can find a rock big enough).
LAKERFAN4LIFE, tired of this Blackfaced fool.
  • blackfaced fool?? hmmmmmm ur ignorant!!
  • No more ignorant than your green a#@. You sound more like the person that is offended because he is being called a "Blackfaced fool". Guess what? This is the united states and freedom of speech is allowed and i will not retract what I said about the Blackfaced fool. Eat that with your ignorant self and ride his monkey while you are at....
  • Charles Oakley is just mad because Barkley was way better than him..Oak was a physical player dont get me wrong but Oak dont have more points or rebounds than Barkley or a shoe line, league MVP, HALL OF Fame inductee...jus to name a few...I am a female and been a fan of Charles since the Auburn days...Oak must be broke and wanting money...LMAO!
    #trufan
  • I have to agree with that BGF...... Oakley was one hell of a tough player but it takes more than that to win a NBA championship and to be a HOF..... Oakley did not have the offensive skills that Barkley had.
  • thank you oakley.one of my fav oldschoolers for saying wut ive been knowing forever.KG tough, give me a break, when he was w minnesota he was getting stomped by NOWITZKI but NOWITZKI was said to b soft.then he goes to boston and hes all of a sudden a tough guy.LOL. couldnt lead a team anywhere past 1st round and barely made it there.also,PERKINS THINKING he can scare grown men by making mean baby faces is ridiculous.OAKLEY would of put him in his place for what he is. LIKE NOW! ! MAVS CHAMPS !!
  • Nowitzki is far from tough buddy!.... Now that your Mavs finally showed some backbone and beat the lakers, you want to talk smack. Enjoy this championship because it will be a cold day in hell before the Mavs win another one.
  • Most of what you said about KG can be applied to Nowitzki. Norwitzki WAS soft. A seven footer that wouldn't take it to the rim?? What else would you call that? Nowitzki has never "stomped" anybody. If by stomped, you mean scored on, than every player in the league has been "stomped" by Norwitzki. How long did it take Dirk to win a championships, and he had far better teams in Dallas, than KG had in Minnesota. Before winning last year, Dirk was known as a playoff "choker". Get real with yourself.
  • Who the hell is Charles Oakley....don't remember him but everyone knows Garnett and Barkley. Sorry Oakley your insignificant.
  • How would you not know Oakley? Unless your not a NBA fan!....
  • YOU KNOW NOTHIN ABOUT NBA THEN
  • Right on about Garnett and Perkins but nothing but sour grapes about Barkley.
  • Although a tough player during his career and more than likely a fan favorite of Knicks fans, Charles Oakley relatively had an adequate NBA career and for him to sound off on two former NBA MVP's and future hall of famers is just lame. The fact that the best thing he's known for is fouling the crap out of people he couldn't guard is one thing but for him to ram on Garnett and Barkley is on the brink of hilarious! Mr. Oakley, how about taking your own advice and speak with these men before you, in your female dogged way, trash them through the media. Finally, his assessment of Charles Barkley's commentary and poor diction is quite interesting given the fact the every single interview and opportunity I have heard him speak seemed like a high school student who needed remedial assistance accompanied with a phonics program! Mr. Oakley, keep your mouth shut and do your job and take your skirt off and confront those men before you go talking about them like a woman on a bad reality show!
  • I love the Oak-man and I agree with him about "Sir Charles". Barkley is an obnoxious clown that, for some reason beyond my comprehension, gets away with anything. I have no respect for him. Oakley played the game the way the game was to be played and has always been a hard worker on and off the court.
  • Hey Grammabet: Sorry to bust your bubble, but it wasn't a prostitute he was caught with and what the helz does her being white have to do with anything. You sound like a racist person for saying he was caught: "with the white prostitute" YOU sound like the Ignorant one for saying that!
  • When you have no game left...what do you do, talk smack about others. Oakley is trying to put himself back in the limelight to get a job. All the guys he is ragging on did or would school him. Garnett has always been a finese player, Perkins a little soft, Barkley was a monster for his size. I don't understand how the NBA is surviving. I can barely watch it.
  • I wouldn't give that TNT rag tag bunch a couple of minutes of my time. Its a clown clutch, full of BS and no real intelligence. Get rid of'em!
  • 2 things about Oakley. One, he can talk all he wants about how tough he was because he was! He slapped Barkley accross the face at a lockout meeting in '99 in front of half the NBA and Barkley took it! Ask ANYBODY who played during Oakleys time about tough guys and you only get 2 names. His and Alvin Robertsons. And Robertson is in the pen right now! Two, he was a mediocre player at best. If not for the rules of that time allowing for dirty play, he would have lasted maybe 5-6 years.
  • come to think about the TNT show, Oakley is right, Charles and Shaq do act like clowns
  • To all who praise Barkley, I say this , he never made his team better, he never got them to a championship. Jordan nade comment that Charles had more talent than he had desire. He felt that he never made the effort to be a champion.
  • charles oakley spent his career on losing teams..........

both perkins & garnett have more championships than big tough Chuck will ever have...........

a long time loser, who spent his career as a hatchet man

  • I really don't care what Oakley has to say about Garnett or Perkins. However, I'm Philly born and raised and huge Sixer fan, and completely agree with Oak about Barkley, he's a complete fraud. He was a selfish, lazy player, and couldn't take the Sixers to the next step. He is not a winner, and his commentating is just horrible. Don't understand why he's an NBA broadcaster.
  • Oak is the man, speak your mind big dog.
Barkley is a joke. Shaq is your daddy loser.
TNT needs to get a clue.

Charles Oakley rips into Garnett, Barkley and Perkins all at once for being soft

A great player but not enough to win a championship. Charles Oakley was one of the most physical power forwards when he used to play back in the day, but now he has turned his attention to other players. Charles Oakley says Kevin Garnett is a fake tough guy and Charles Barkley is a fraud

Former NBA player Charles Oakley’s reputation in the NBA was legendary. Some of the thug-nificant off court alleged incidents are even crazier. Oakley has never been known to hold his tongue so you know his recent radio interview with Jim Rome is absolutely full of quotables. Oakley shared his thoughts on Kevin Garnett (he’s not a [...]

Charles Oakley is old school y’all

Once upon a time, before athletes became acutely sensitive to every-little-slight or criticism, athletes used to be able to criticize each other with impunity. In the age of 24/7 media, GOD FORBID we ever hear a disparaging word about...

Boston Getting Beat Down!

Kevin Garnett is fading fast.Despite being a lifelong Boston Celtics fanatic, I think the state of the C’s right now is quite funny!I know that may not sound right, but I’m sorry … I’m just blown away at the fact that Doc Rivers and President Danny Ainge have let the aging team reach its current state.I mean, how obvious is it that the Celtics are as slow as a damn turtle...

Recap: Celtics leave OKC with a moral victory

I didn't watch enough of this game to offer legitimate analysis, but I will give the Celtics a boat load of credit for cutting a 27-point deficit (83-56 with 6:35 remaining in 3rd quarter) to 6 points late in the 4th quarter. The Celtics had two sloppy turnovers (Pietrus bad pass and KG's drop) that squelched the comeback. OKC ran away with it 119-104. Avery Bradley ...

Don't expect Danny Ainge to blow the Celtics up at the trade deadline

With the Boston Celtics losing six of their last seven games and falling back under .500 comes the inevitable call from anyone with an opinion to get rid of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, the team trainer and the head of the public relations department. The "blow the team up" rallies, which disappeared when the Celtics were on their...

Rajon Rondo Ejected Late in Third Quarter Against Pistons

The Celtics started Sunday's game against the Pistons without Kevin Garnett, and they'll finish it without Rajon Rondo as well. Rondo was ejected late in the third quarter after receiving a double technical. The point guard appeared to argue for a foul call after crashing to the floor. Then, after not receiving a call, he appeared to flip the ball at referee Sean Wright,...

Celtics-Thunder Preview

When the NBA's condensed schedule was released, one spot for the Oklahoma City Thunder to circle seemed to be a back-to-back home stretch against the league's premier historical powerhouses. Celtics get KG back, but Wilcox, O'Neal out
