La La Anthony denies that Kevin Garnett referenced Honey Nut Cheerios when talking trash to her husband, Carmelo, during a Jan. 7 game between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden.
You may recall that Anthony and KG got into it during and after the game. ‘Melo tried confronting Garnett twice after the game — once by the locker rooms and another time by the Celtics’ team bus. It was reported by Black Sports Online that Garnett told ‘Melo that his wife, La La, tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios, leading ‘Melo to lose his mind during the game. That report was so widely circulated it became accepted as fact, even though Celtics coach Doc Rivers denied it. Now La La is denying it too.
“I had to be able to laugh about it because that one was really crazy,” La La told Renada Romain, host of “Ear Candy Mornings” on SiriusXM 44. “Like someone saying, ‘Oh, your wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios,’ and everybody really believing that and running with it. That’s not what was said. Kevin Garnett did not say that about me. He just said some things to my husband that ['Melo] didn’t like that he felt like one man doesn’t say to another.
“They’re perfectly fine now,” La La said of Garnett and her husband. “It happens in the heat of battle. People don’t know what goes on on that floor. [Garnett's] known for that. So it got under my husband’s skin, things happen, but it wasn’t about me.”
The day after the Honey Nut Cheerios report emerged, a separate report said she and ‘Melo were having marital problems. La La addressed her relationship with ‘Melo during the interview.
“We’re doing great,” La La told Romain. “We’ve been together for 10 years! I always say when people tell their marriage is perfect, they’re lying. We’ve been together 10 years. We go through ups, we go through downs like anyone else, but we work through them. We’re doing great … we’re working through it and things are good.”
