Allen Iverson spent three seasons with the Denver Nuggets, as well as some time with the Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies, but to most he’ll be remembered for the 12 years spent as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

After being selected with the first overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft Iverson became one of the most beloved athletes ever in Philadelphia. He won the league’s Rookie of the Year Award in 1997 and was named MVP in 2001. During the 2000-2001 season Iverson led the Sixers to the NBA Finals, scoring 48 points in the series’ opening game versus the Lakers.

Iverson ranks second in franchise history in minutes played (29,879), third in field goals made (6,962), first in made three-pointers (885), third in assists (4,385), second in steals (1,644), and is tied with Wilt Chamberlain for the top spot with an average of 27.6 points per game.

Next March, Iverson will join Chamberlain and six others when he has his No. 3 retired during a ceremony at halftime of the Sixers’ game versus the Washington Wizards.

“Allen Iverson is, without question, one of the most iconic players to ever wear the Sixers uniform,” Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil said in a statement. “Allen left everything out on the court and no one could ever question his heart — he was relentless, fearless and pound-for-pound, was one of the greatest to ever play the game.”
