Apparently in Russian basketball, when in doubt, just pass the ball to a recognizable face. Common sense dictates that you make sure that face belongs to a player on your own team and not your head coach. Gundars Ventra, head coach of Russian Professional Basketball League team Unics Kazan, was patrolling the sidelines during a recent game against Spartak Vladivostok when one of his players had a brain cramp and passed the ball to the unsuspecting coach. Showing great awareness, Ventra turned and passed the ball to another Unics player who promptly drained the baseline trey.

Of course the shot didn’t count, but that was some serious court awareness displayed by Ventra. And the technique on his chest pass was just superb, being as good, if not better, than the pass he received from the player who showed why he’s playing in Russia and not the NBA.
