Via Cosby Sweaters:
Amir Johnson of the Toronto Raptors was ejected during the third quarter of Monday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers for an extremely bizarre set of actions. Amir was going to grab the ball following the first of J.J. Hickson’s free throws and David Jones, the veteran referee, grabbed the ball at the exact same time. Amir, for some odd reason, would not let the ball go and started wrestling for it with the ref. It didn’t take long for the ref to blow his whistle and eject Amir for this odd behavior. For good measure Amir ripped out his mouth guard on his way off the court and threw it at Jones, hitting him in the back.
Following the game, Johnson said that the struggle over the ball with the referee was “childish” on both their parts and apologized for throwing the mouthpiece.
