During Game 6 of the Boston Celtics-Atlanta Hawks series the refs blew a major call that could have changed the outcome of the game and series for the Hawks.
The NBA admitted its referees blew a call in the final seconds of Thursday nights game that saw the Celtics eliminate the Hawks.
With 3.1 seconds left, the Hawks were trying to inbound the ball and on the attempt Boston's Marquis Daniels was called for holding on Hawks Al Horford before the ball was inbound.
The foul before the ball is inbounded means a free throw and the ball out of bounds. Thats not how it went for the Hawks. Referee Eric Lewis said the ball was in the air during the foul making it just a common foul. Boston had one foul to give so the Hawks were left without a free throw and just the ball out of bounds.
After reviewing the replay it is clear the ball was never released and the Hawks should have been given the free throw with the ball out of bounds.
Here is the replay.

Another year and another early exit for the Atlanta Hawks from the playoffs. Last night, the Hawks lost Game 6 against the Boston Celtics in the first round. There are quite a few reasons that can be made as to why the Hawks lost this game and the series.

NBA says foul called incorrectly
The NBA says a foul against Boston with 3.1 seconds left in Atlanta's season-ending loss on Thursday should have been called sooner, which would have given the Hawks a free throw instead of just the ball out of bounds.

Kevin Garnett tears into Hawks owner after winning playoff series
The Atlanta Hawks were already tasked with a difficult enough assignment of facing the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Their owner did them no favors by calling out Kevin Garnett prior to Game 6 — an elimination game for his team.
Garnett had a game-high 28 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals in the 83-80 series-clinching win on Thursday...
Kevin Garnett Uses Hawks Owner Insults To Fire His Celtics Past Hawks
Kevin Garnett, the dirtiest guy in the NBA? That is what the Atlanta Hawks owner claims. Maybe the next time he opened his mouth to cast insults, his team will be able to go out and back up his bug mouth. Garnett used the insults to add injury to the Atlanta Hawks. The Boston Celtics closed out the series against Atlanta with a 83-80 win last night. Garnett went on to thank the Atlanta...
Hey, at least the Hawks lost with class!
Whether it’s Ivan Johnson giving the one-finger salute 6 inches away from a Celtics fan’s face or Atlanta’s owner bashing KG and calling him the dirtiest player in the league, you have to give it to the Hawks…they lose with a lot of class and respect.
Atlanta, have fun golfing for the rest of the summer…and feel free to give Josh Beckett a call.

Celtics Unfazed By Having Only One Day to Prepare for Game 1 Against Sixers
BOSTON -- Maybe it was only adrenaline, but Doc Rivers looked as energized as he could have been after Thursday's victory over the Atlanta Hawks. One day of practice between playoff rounds and a matchup from hell, based on recent history, did not dim the excitement in Rivers' tired eyes. The win helped to put the Celtics head coach in a good mood, of course, as it assured...

Kevin Garnett Responds to Hawks Owner Michael Gearon Jr. With Play First, Words Second
BOSTON -- Kevin Garnett responded twice to an Atlanta Hawks co-owner calling him "the dirtiest player in the league" on Thursday. First, he responded with his play. Then he responded with some pointed words. Garnett was hot when he sat down at the microphone after he dropped 28 points and 14 rebounds on the Hawks in Game 6, adding five blocked shots and three steals for...
Angry Garnett sends Hawks packing
You knew it would end this way, in heartbreaking and totally unpredictable fashion, with what could be their fifth and final season with their core group intact. The Hawks couldn't have it any other way. They exited the playoffs with their reputation intact.
