MVN:
With all the hype focusing on next years big free agent signings,
the present offseason has quietly emerged behind the curtains as an
intense trade and signing extravaganza.
Notable players such
Rasheed Wallace, Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, Shaquille O'Neal,
Emeka Okafor, Ron Artest, Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Shawn Marion,
Jamal Crawford, and Allen Iverson each received the golden opportunity
to change city's and start fresh on a new roster.
Pushing the
highly publicized players aside, and your left with a bunch of athletes
who have signed minimal contracts ($5 million per year and under) and
are predicted by NBA Primetime to have maximum impact for their new
organization.
Top Five Minimal Signing, Maximum Production Athletes (in to particular order.)1. Anthony Parker (SG/SF)- (2 year, $6.0 million signing)
34-year
old Anthony Parker joins an exciting Cleveland Cavaliers with much
expectancy to compete for the title during the '09-'10 season.
Parker's
arsenal consists of a excellent three-point shooting stroke (career
41.5% three-point shooting), an attack the basket approach, and the
ability to distribute, rebound, and steal the ball.
With
the fascinating LeBron James running the floor, Parker will get the
chance to camp out at the three-point line, run the court for multiple
alley-oops, and contribute in bunches to the Cavaliers overall success.
Costing just $3.0 million per season, Parker is a tremendous bang for your buck kind of guy.
2. Jarrett Jack (PG, TOR)- (4 year, $20 mill signing)
Jack enjoyed a career-high season last year with the Indiana Pacers, playing in all 82 games, averaging 13.1 PPG, 4.1 APG, 3.3 RPG, and 1.1 SPG in 33.1 MPG.Standing
6'3", Jack can play the point-guard position as well as the two spot.
His quickness and defensive ability will enable him to produce
consistent minutes off of the Raptors bench and immediately contribute
to Toronto's winning percentage.3. Matt Barnes (SF, ORL)- (2 year, $3.8 mill signing) Matt
Barnes has made quite a name for himself throughout the last few
seasons and now joins a young Magic team that is destined for success.Barnes
is extremely versatile and capable of playing various positions on the
court. He is a fantastic shooter (43.3% career shooting) from every
angle and a serious threat on the defensive side of the floor, adept to
defending top tier shooting guards and small forwards in the league. Making
just under $4 million in two seasons, the Magic are without a doubt one
of the few organizations that will get a big bang for their buck with
the Barnes signing. 4. Hakim Warrick (PF, MIL)- (1 year, $3.0 mill signing) While
playing for Memphis during his first four seasons in the league, 6'9"
Hakim Warrick sporadically showed flashes of his true talent when
posting starters minutes. With the opportunity to now get a starting job in Milwaukee,
Warrick will assuredly prove to his old team (the Grizzlies) that not
giving him 30 plus minutes per game was a catastrophic mistake. Although
the Bucks are predicted to be one of the worst teams in the East,
signing Hakim Warrick can arguably turn the four year forward into the
Most Improved Player of the Year by season end. 5. Drew Gooden (PF/C)- (1 year, guaranteed $4.5 mill signing) After Orlando surprisingly re-signed Marcin Gortat, the Mavericks went out and signed PF/C Drew Gooden to a one year deal.Since entering the league, Gooden has played for six different teams, averaging 12.0 PPG and 7.9 RPG on 47.1% shooting for his career. Gooden
will become the starting center for a revamped Dallas organization that
is confident enough to compete for the title this season. If the 6'10" banger can produce efficiently, the one year signing can quickly turn into a long-term deal.
