TEAMS: New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors
New York MagazineThe New York Knicks look like frontrunners to pursue point guard Steve Nash, as they look to get the 38-year-old in a sign-and-trade deal, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.
Other teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers have also been interested. The Mavericks plan to give Nash a big offer to sign him as they couldn’t land Deron Williams or Dwight Howard this off-season. The Lakers have been looking to sign-and-trade. The Toronto Raptors have also been mentioned, as they even overpaid Landry Fields to get him.
However, the most likely deal that looks like will happen will be Nash to the Knicks. The big player the the Knicks will have to give up is young guard Iman Shumpert, however.
“The Knicks don’t want to trade (Shumpert), but they will if they have to. They want Nash,” says a source to ESPN.com.
The deal is believed to be a three-year contract worth $25 million. The other pieces New York looks to trade are Toney Douglas, Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan. A third team could be involved to help the trade.
If this deal goes down, the Knicks look like a scary team on paper with Nash, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler.
