ORLANDO -- It's hard to tell yet just how good the Brooklyn Nets really are this season because they keep beating the same overmatched team. They should find out more Saturday night in Miami. The Nets hammered the hapless Orlando Magic for the third time this season, 98-86, Friday night by riding their stronger rebounding and superior long-range shooting. The Nets (11-4) won their fifth consecutive game to cap the best November in 10 seasons. The Magic (5-10) lost their third consecutive game. Guard Joe Johnson had 22 points and five assists for the Nets. Forward Gerald Wallace, who hit five of his six 3-point shots, had 20 points. The Magic were led by Glen Davis who had 16 points. While the Magic will begin a five-game West Coast trip on Sunday in Los Angeles, the Nets play Saturday in Miami against the Heat, who should provide a better gauge of how much improved they really are. "We'll see where we really are tomorrow," Nets coach Avery Johnson said af...

Lopez to sit out with sprained foot

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez will miss the next two games with a mild sprain of his right foot. The Nets said Thursday that X-rays were negative, but the injury could be a concern given Lopez's foot problems last season. He missed 32 games after breaking that foot in the preseason, and an ankle injury after he returned aggravated the foot injury. Lopez ended up getting...

The Brooklyn Nets’ Brilliant Bench Built on a Budget

After spending 225 million dollars resigning starters Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez and trading for Joe Johnson and his almost 90 million dollar contract, the Brooklyn Nets had a busy off-season, spending over 300 million dollars on their starting lineup. Well there was little doubt that they had an excellent starting lineup and were a surefire...

Andray Blatche is your new Huckleberry (short term anyway)

Brook Lopez had a November to remember but it looks like he may have a December to forget. Yesterday it was announced that he will miss at least the next two games with a foot bone issue. The same foot bone that caused him to miss almost all of last year. Not good, son! If you’re in an active league chances are Andray Blatche has been scooped up by now but if he hasn’t then you...

Glen Davis learns leadership

Glen Davis stood at his locker following Orlando's 116-110 overtime loss to Boston on Sunday and faced the media. The typically gregarious big man was quiet and contemplative like many of his teammates following a game that the team felt slipped through its fingers. Davis, just a few nights before, was joking about the turkey leg he grabbed from the FSFlorida promotion before...

Vote: Did Rajon Rondo Deserve to Be Suspended Two Games for His Altercation With Kris Humphries?

On Wednesday, the Nets’ Kris Humphries put a hard foul on Kevin Garnett, and Rajon Rondo went relatively ballistic. As soon as Garnett wend down to the floor, Rondo went after Humphries, engaging the power forward that spilled into the stands as Gerald Wallace and other teammates got involved. Rondo, Humphries and Wallace were all ejected, but most suspected that wouldn’t be...

Nets at Magic game preview

Game time: Friday at 7 p.m. ET TV: FOX Sports Florida The Brooklyn Nets are playing well, but they'll have to keep that up without Brook Lopez for at least the next two games. One of those contests includes a visit to the reigning NBA champion. Before that, the Nets look to overcome Lopez's absence and conclude November with a third victory over the sputtering Orlando...

Wallace crashes Magic homestand

Gerald Wallace and Reggie Evans were going to teach rookies Maurice Harkless and Andrew Nicholson a lesson in hustle. After the loss to San Antonio, this was surely something the team addressed in its team meeting Thursday. Glen Davis and the Magic came out with the right energy and focus and carried it throughout. That extra level of execution though was not there and grinders...

A Few Random Thoughts on Celtics/Nets Fight

First of all this sets up a pretty heated Christmas Day game right off the bat. It should get some good ratings. You have to wonder if the league wanted to set up a rivalry between these two teams for ratings purposes. Yes, I know I'm getting into tinfoil hat areas here, but I can't help but wonder.  In the first outing between the Celtics and the Nets,  Keith Bogans...

Video: Tempers flare during Celtics, Nets game

With the Nets up 51-35 in the first half of their game against the Celtics last night, tempers flared when Nets' Kris Humphries fouled Celtics' Kevin Garnett sending him crashing to the floor. Rajon Rondo didn't take to kindly to Humphries' foul on his teammate and that's when a brawl broke out. Boston head coach responded to the brawl saying the fight...

Celtics’ Jason Terry says Kris Humphries is soft, pretends to be a tough guy

Kris Humphries used to be a quiet unassuming guy from Minnesota who could rebound pretty well and was a solid NBA player. Then Hump became a Kardashian, and it all went to his head. Humphries is now a regular on TMZ and any other gossip site for things other than basketball. Humphries was involved in [...] [[ This is a content summary only. And, now we meet

Sunday is going to be a weird day for Magic fans. In one sense it will be extremely cathartic -- the object of hatred for much of the past nine months will be front and center on the TV screen. Venom can be unleashed on Twitter and schadenfreude (taking pleasure in other people's pain) can be expressed in a very real manner. Let's not even go into the feelings should...

Enemy Chatter: Rondo is like a mosquito in your face

We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from Brooklyn. Reggie Evans likened Rondo to an annoying bug. Rondo is eight inches shorter and 50 pounds lighter than Humphries. “That’s just like a mosquito in your face. Eventually, you are going to swat at the mosquito, right?” Evans...
