Could Josh Howard and Kenyon Martin tip the Knicks over the edge and make them a real serious contender for the 2012/13 season?
Both players have been linked to the Knicks recently and both players have still a lot to prove. Howard and Martin shouldn’t receive more than a Veterans Minimum Contract from any team in the NBA.
I guess the 2 issues are: Would they come and be prepared to share playing time? Would the rest of the Knicks players be prepared to loose minutes to add more depth and flexibility?
If we look at both players, we have to decide what they will bring to NY. We will look at Josh Howard first.
Howard can spread the floor with his shooting and was quite a dynamic player back in his days at Dallas, something the Knicks could definitely use. He had a career high 47 points against the Jazz back in December of 2008. Here is a link to the highlights of this great night in his career.
If the Knicks do sign Howard to a vet’s minimum contract, I think there is a lot to gain and not a lot to lose. If he breaks down again I think we have enough pieces in our current rotation that his injury won’t make such a mark, but if Howard stays fit and healthy...
